What is 2XKO Fighting Game
2XKO is a 2D fighting game developed by Riot Games and based on League of Legends. The game is released on January 20. 2026 for consoles (also PC launch in 2025). 2XKO is a 2vs 2 tag fighting game with a new twisted. Also, 2XKO is a first free-to-play fighting game in history, there might be more in the near future. Anyways, Riot Games released a trailer for Caitlyn for season 1 before console released. There is 11 playable characters to choose from such as Jinx, Vi, Ahri, Teemo and many more. While in character select, players can choose a playstyle called “Fuses”. Fuses can change the tides in battle, for example, there are five Fuses to choose from. First, “Double Down”, is very similar to Marvel vs Capcom series, for example, using tag, assist and team supers.
This fuse is recommended for beginners but there is “2X Assist” which players can use assist twice in one go. “Freestyle” is more advance tag along with assist, both this and 2X Assist mechanic is for veterans in fighting games. There is a solo playstyles like “Juggernaut” a single champion with no tag, but that character can have bluffs. “Sidekick” is little similar to Juggernaut but only your partner can assist not headshake. Basic controls of the game has light, medium and heavy attacks along with headshake button. Defense, there is burst and blocking ongoing attacks. The game has a tutorial mode to learn the ropes of 2XKO. Players can complete combo trials along with other challenges to earn points for Battle Pass. Avatar customization is available for online lobby but you have to purchase or grind for in-game currency.
How is the Game Different
2XKO strays away from Quarter-Circle traditional 2D fighter like Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls and DNF Duel. In the game, Players have two attack button S1 and S2 which can be inputted different direction. These special moves can be chained into a combo along with basic attacks. Super moves can pressed with two buttons simultaneously without directional input. In online gameplay, players can interact with others like chat, invite to private lobby and matchnaking. Along with spectating matching and hub looks similar to Street Fighter 6. They might add more things in lobby as game progresses in the future. Some characters are locked and have to be purchased, either standard edition or completing missions. I wouldn’t say that game is online only but has versus mode for offline gaming. Game soundtrack is a blend of grunge and pop that fits within League of Legends universe.
Graphics is very anime-ish and takes inspiring from Guilty Gear Strive. The game has English and Japanese voice acting options as well. Sometimes the game goes into maintenance for time to time because of updates and patches. You can unlock skins and other cosmetics for your character and in-game Avatar, They do have Arcane skins for Jinx, Ekko and Vi went purchase based on Netlix show. Personally, I am not a fan of League of Legends but 2XKO has grown on me. I remember back in 2019, went the game was called “Project L”. Project L was a prototype of a LOL fighting game and Tom Cannon explains it during EVO (I might be wrong about it). Fast forward to 2026, 2XKO is born and content creators was happy to play a new fighting based on Riot Games property.
Others Thoughts on 2XKO
2XKO is very flashy and fluid game that fighting game beginners along with veterans alike. Some people will get bored with the game due to small character roster and lack of content. Well, I have to say that they just launched and more characters along with game modes will be announced soon. Myself, I found myself in training mode, learning characters like Darrius and Yasuo. Darrius and Braum are powerhouse along difficult to master. All I have to learn frame data and those character’s perks. The game popularity has grown on Twitch being in the front page in time for the new season. Note: I did get accepted for closed beta for PC but didn’t download due to my minimum specs requirements for my laptop at the time. Why not wait for console version of the game to come out, which I am against getting a new PC and building one.
Overall, 2XKO fighting game is so fun but gets boring kind of fast. Don’t get me wrong that I like traditional quarter-circle fighting games and had fond memories of them. There is nothing wrong with playing a fighting game that meant for beginners. In my opinion, its a nice change of peace for once, because I am not a hardcore fighting game player. Speaking of that, I want to see more Esports tournaments for this game because Frosty Faustlings is coming in January 29 – February 1, 2026 with prize pool along with Duo Bounty. The game will be a major mixed mode tournament and sponsored by Riot Games I can’t wait to see these players give it their all and win.
