Aya and Mio

Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games – Aya and Mio

Aya and Mio Relationship

Aya Mitsuki and Mio Yorue are two main heroines in Eri Ejima’s manga Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games. Throughtout the series, both main characters goes to all-girl academy named Kuromi Girls Academy. Aya used to play fighting games like Street Fighter 5 because her friends moved on to Soccer. One day, Aya roams Kuromi academy hallway and finds the most popular studio Mio playing Street Fighter 6 in a classroom. Mio goes by gamertag “White Lily” and her main character is Ryu. She spots Aya and tells her that don’t tell the teacher because students get expelled from playing video games.

Afterwards, Aya kept her promise to Mio and two of them formed a rivalry in Street Fighter. In Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games, Aya and Mio relationship is upside down. During EVO Japan episode 12, Aya gets jealous of another player named Arisa (who often called Little Brat) after fighting each other in Street Fighter 6 Pools. After losing at EVO Japan, Aya kept her distances from Mio because she found a new rival. Aya didn’t find the words to tell her how she feels about her. While in a empty dorm room, Aya recollects herself and wants to become Mio’s rivals them episode 12 ends.

In the series, Mio had issues with her mother because education and always think about gaming. While, Aya loss her friends because lack of interest in playing SF6 with her. Aya and Mio bond is little stagnant but slowly developing as manga is ongoing. Aya teaches other character Tamaki Ichinose and Yu Inui how to become good at Street Fighter 6 like frame data along with combos. While Aya, thinks Mio is a newbie at SF6 but found someone who share a common interest as herself.

Will They End up Together?

Again, while manga still goes on, Mio and Aya will probably become a couple by end. Right now, there are just friends and rivals went it comes to fighting games. Both female character have a neutral understanding which each other. Supporting characters like Natsume (Aya roommate), thinking that Mio and Aya are in a relationship. One day, Mio and Aya might face each other in EVO Japan finals. Both of them, have to get pass Arisa, Cafeore and Geikdo along with other professional esports players as well. Mio will use Ryu and Aya has Cammy White, I didn’t see them using other characters in the roster. You know what, that might happen as series goes on, Mio might switch characters which Aya will find distasteful.

Two major heroines might have a falling out or pursue a romantic relationship in mid-part of the series. Right now, fighting games is on they mind and doesn’t care about love other than gaming. Its safe to say that both Aya and Mio are in fighting game community. Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games tackles that issues very well and I highly recommended watching it. Off topic: there is another anime called “Hi-Score Girl” which tackles fighting games as well. Be sure to give it a watch.

What makes Mio shine? Aya always ask that question in early episodes or chapter of the series. Mio loves fighting games and ha a passion for them. She was alone in Kuromi Girls Academy with no one to talk to about fighting games. When Aya comes along for the ride, Mio was a new person and found someone to share her interest with. Myself, I am a introvert and love playing video games along with anime. When I got to social media or anime conventions to meet like-minded people.

Closing

That’s beautiful of being a gamer and finding someone who shares your ideals. There is some bad apples out there but I don’t care. I also live stream on Twitch and interact with viewers to talk about latest video games. Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games has streamers to like Cecil, who accompanies Gekido. Anyways, Mio and Aya are not ready to become a couple yet. Give the manga time to develop those characters and time will tell if that happens.

I am a casual fighting game player myself. There is so many fighting games I played like Mortal Kombat, Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls, Tekken and list goes on. They also talk about fundamentals of fighting games which some I already knew about watching pro players like MenaRD, who mains Blanka in SF6. There is content creators like Yipes, Justin Wong and Maximilian Dood that covers fighting games as well. Don’t forgot about esports commentators like Tasty Steve, Sajam and more. I already talk about Esports on this website, feel free to check it out.
