What are Bronies?
Bronies is a term of adult males who loves series “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” but originally cater to younger female demographics. Some people have a distaste of grown adults watching a kid show that was introduced in 1981. For those who don’t know what My Little Pony franchise is about I will enlighten you. My Little Pony is based on toyline by Hasbro in 1982 but was originally named My Pretty Pony. The franchise was created by Bonnie D. Zacherle and spawn tv shows, films, video games along with having a cult following. These ponies have different colors and names along with having a symbol called “Cuite Mark”.
Also, these ponies come from generations like “G1, G4 and beyond, My Little Pony was very huge in the 80s along with He-Man, Transformers and GI Joe. The franchise has grown throughout the years and bronies were born in 2010. MLP fandom is divided into two groups “bronies” and “pegasister”. Pegasister is manly for female audience, while bronies are males. Thanks to Lauren Faust’s “My Little Pony Friendship is Magic tv show, the fandom has formed.
My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, it was developed by Lauren Faust and released on October 10, 2010, on Discovery Family Channel network. The plot is about six ponies, Twilight Sparkle (a unicorn), an apprentice of Princess Celestia on Equestria. Twilight Sparkles learn the ways of ponies along with Elements of Harmony. Sparkles meet other characters like Apple Jack (a southern pony) along with represent honesty.
My Little Pony Friendship is Magic
Rarity who loves beauty and represents generosity, Pinkie Pie, a pony who breaks the 4th wall and very energetic. Pie represents laughter, Rainbow Dash, a winged pony that has superspeed and has loyalty. Fluttershy, a very shy pony who talks to animals and displays kindness. Twilight also represents magic and major characters are dubbed “Mane Six” in the series. Six main characters create bonds and learn the meaning of friendship in the show.
MLP: Friendship is Magic has story arc like fighting villains like Lord Tirek, Lord Chrysalis and more. There is supporting characters like Spike, who has a crush on Rarity and assist Twilight in tasks. Discord is a spirit that cause mischief and one of the main antagonists of first season. My Little Pony Friendship is Magic run from 9 season and ended October 12, 2019. Party doesn’t stop there, Equestria Girls tv specials and films were released before show has ended.
Equestria Girls is basely alternate universe where ponies turn humanoid to live in modern society. Laura Faust had to stepped down for first two seasons and felt “she wasn’t biggest fan of Equestria Girls series” according to Craig McCracken. Equestria girls did receive a lot of backlash and criticism because designs of Mane Six. I remember watching couple of episodes before I dropped it first time. Second time in 2026, I found myself enjoying the show and had to watch main story arc like just Saban shows.
Are Bronies Bad?
There were a lot of filter episodes in MLP, but I got caught up on what is going on. Anyways, are bronies bad and get no respect for? Well, bronies are part of comic books, anime and video game fandom. I understand people think bronies are sexually attracted to ponies and use slang that they can related to. Yes, fandom exists today and still cosplay and share their love for MLP series as G4 ended. Ponies are still around and have collaboration with video games like Heartopia.
Along with Transformers and fan works should as Fallout: Equestria. Doesn’t forgot about conventions like BronyCon and many others that celebrate My Little Pony franchise. I respect bronies and pegasisters too, recently, I watch reaction videos on YouTube on G1 episodes from Bronies. In my opinion, it was very enjoyable and display laughter like Pinkie Pie. I will tell you this, there is nothing wrong being a brony and enjoying things that bring you joy. People still think they’re disgusting and sided eye them but they’re human beings. It doesn’t matter your race, gender or sex orientation, fandom is for everyone to be apart of.
There are some bad actors who will ruin that harmony of MLP fandom. Maybe I might turn into a brony but still a novice one, I have even seen 2021 movie “My Little Pony: A New Generation” couple of years ago. Does anybody remember fanmade fighting game called “My Little Pony Fighting is Magic” before Harsbro send cease and desist letter to developer Mane6? Well, Them’s Fightin’ Herds is still part of MLP universe and wish for a crossover in the future.

Feel free to buy Them’s Fighting’ Herds on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC. Anyways, I forgot the performance of voice actresses like Tara Strong (one of my favorite female actresses) who did a great job with Twilight Sparkle. Along with Ashleigh Ball, Andrea Libman, Tabitha St Germain and Cathy Weseluck. There are songs in the show just like 80s version with stunning visuals using flash animation.
MLP: Friendship is Magic is filled with light-hearted jokes and antics that major character’s face. Even Hasbro surprised that adults watch this show and become a success in the long run. Story is very easy to understand even for newcomers to the show like me. Don’t forget, there is male ponies in this show as well like Twilight Sparkle’s brother.
Brony fandom will live on, and Hasbro will not shelve this series anytime soon like Power Rangers. Be proud that you enjoy something and passionate about like My Little Pony.
