Tim Burton Animated Movies

Tim Burton animated movies are truly a classic went it comes to stop-motion goddess. Burton’s style is very dark and gothic, which his style revolutionize story-telling in many ways. While, Tim Burton is working on Wednesday TV show and other projects. Viewers will see his directing on what characters are situation that they find themselves in. For example, his live action movies like Edward Scissorhands, it tells a story about mysterious man with scissorhands that trying to find his purpose. While, townsfolks are afraid of his appearance and willing to welcome him. Some doesn’t like him and even trying to get rid of Edward. Its been decades, since I saw movie and stars Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder (later on stars in Beetlejuice with Micheal Keaton). Speaking of Micheal Keaton, he stars as Cape Crusader in Batman Returns with Jack Nicholson.

There is so many Burton live action movie I seen such as Mars Attacks, Alice in Wonderland (2010) and his rendition of Wily Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. What about his animated films? In this article, I will be talking about his stop motion movies that become beacon of his work. Tim Burton also have short film which one of them, transforms into full-length movie. Let’s get right to it and I will explained each animated series is connected. I know, there is Tik Tok videos about how they connected already but this so be no brainier.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

The Nightmare Before Christmas was Tim Burton’s instant hit and iconic Halloween movie of all time. Movie is about a Pumpkin King named Jack Skellington, who lives in Halloweentown. Jack is very bored with celebrating Halloween every year, he stumbles upon tree leading into Christmas world. Jack has idea to celebrate Christmas with a twisted. Every thinks its a bad idea included Sally and Dr Frinkelstein because it will end in disaster. The Nightmare Before Christmas is my favorite of all time because musical and character design. Nightmare Before Christmas pay the way for Frankweenie and Corpse Bride. Did you know that Jack’s dog Zero is very similar to Victor’s in Corpse Bride. If you want to check out The Nightmare Before Christmas, it available on DVD and Disney Plus.

Corpse Bride (2005)

Corpse is second in Tim Burton animated movies which story is about marriage. The plot revolves around Victor Van Dort who set to be marry to Victoria Everglot. Due to his timidness, Victor forgets his vows and meets a undead bride named Emily. Emily was looking for perfect man to marry her which Victory feel unease. Despite, Victor’s protest, Emily broke off the marriage and let Victoria wed him instead, full-filling her promise. During the world of death, which Emily resides in, reminds me of Halloween town in some way. I have recently, watch this film in October 16, 2025 for the first time. It was great to hear Johnny Depp voice again and tackle issues about arranged marriage. Lord Fins Everglot looks like Mr. Burgermeister from Frankenweenie. I found myself enjoying the film with Burton’s touch and charm. Check out Corpse Bride on DVD.

Frankenweenie (2012)

Based on Tim Burton’s 1984 short film, Frankenweenie is about a dog named Sparky. Sparky is own by Victor Frankenstein (named after fictional character and same name), during a baseball game. The dog gets stuck by a car and dies, Victor has idea to reanimated corpse for upcoming science project in school. Victor success brought back Sparky to life, even his parent and other students like Edgar E Gore. One day, his classmates tries to reanimated their deceased pets after learning Victor’s secret experiment. Frankenweenie and Victor saves the townsfolks in Dutch. Frankenweenie did have the same charm as Corpse Bride and Nightmare Before Christmas. Still, the film should be a matinee for family and children, Frankenweenie is available now on DVD.

Tim Burton’s Animated Movies Connected

There is very similarities in character designs and tone of the movies. All of Tim Burton’s movies revolves around death. His movies are not light-heart but probably Dumbo (2019), I haven’t watch that movie though. Frankenweenie and Corpse Bride protagonists does look very similar also share the same name. Burton is making viewers find the connection to his stop motion movies which I adore. Personally, in Nightmare Before Christmas, there is other doors like Easter and many more. I always wonder what is the other doors in the woods are. We never will every know, since there is no sequel. On that note, Jack Skellington has appeared in Kingdom Hearts, Fortnite and many more. I do wonder if he will do more stop motion movies like Nightmare Before Christmas. Frankenweenie’s main character Victor doesn’t have a love interest but Corpse Bride and Nightmare Before Christmas does.

Each character have their own issues and problems in the movie. In 2025, I really miss watching these stop motion movies but have seen Coraline along with Wendell & Wild.
