What is Danmachi?

Danmachi is short for It Is Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon, based on light novel by Fujino Omori and Suzuhito Yasuda. The plot is about an adventurer named Bell Canel, who is a part of a Hestia Familia and wants to catch up with a swordswoman named Ais Wallenstein. Ais Wallenstein is a part of Loki Familia and consider the strongest adventurer and star in a spin-off “Sword of Orario”.  Hestia is a goddess of starvation and one of the main protagonists of Danmachi. She is very obsessed with Bell and get jealous of his relationship with other female characters. As the series progresses, Bell become stronger and gaining new allies like Welf Crozzo, a blacksmith from Hephaistos Famila. These are characters from Soma Famila and many more.  Haruhime Sanjono, a demi-fox who was apart of Istar’s Famila and more.

Bell gains attention from other familia and Gods like Freya (who falls in love with him). His personality draws monsters who talk humans and intelligence called Xenos (season 3). In the land of Orario, there are gods, demi humans and adventures co-existence with each other. Main mc goes to different changes like learning spells like firebolt and gaining new equipment. It’s just like a Japanese role playing game, where players have to grind for hours to level up. That’s what Bell does; he trains with others like his Idol Ais Wallenstein. In the series, we explore backstories of major characters like Ryu Lion, an elf who works as a waitress and was apart of Astera Familia in season 4. Ryu’s Familia was destroyed by a creature named Juggernaut, which Hestia’s group have trouble facing. We get to explore her backstory and her relationship with Bell.

More Danmachi

Liliruca’s backstory and used by Soma Familia. She pretends to be Bell’s supporter. She was mistreated and Bell befriend her at the end. My favorite arc is War Games in the show. Hestia has their big showdown with Apollon Familia.  Apollon was interested in Bell (just like Freya) and flirts with Hestia. Certain characters joins forces with Soma to bring them both down. Bell and his Familia defeat Apollon Familia and had to disband, along with seizing his home. Danmachi has a lot of waifus who are very eye catching like Aisha Belka and Cassandra Lllion (those are the best girls).  I have caught up with story with recaps (which is very helpful and don’t have watch whole season). Eariler, in the series he meets Hestia and two formed a bond.

I was not a huge fan of the series. Do remember season one that Hestia uses her power. Hestia’s powers are way too forbidden. In Damcachi, Bell being shun throughout the series.. This series got its up and down, what Bell must go through in his journey. Bell got a nickname Rabbit’s foot. I have play free to play Danmachi Battle Chronicles which is a gacha game like Bleach Brave Souls. The game is a pay to win method just any free to play game. I al loving In-game cutscenes are in Battle Chronicles. They keep throwing it in your face to buy in-game currently with real money. Players you choose three characters based on their attributes. Also, trying to get girls in Dungeons as well. Besides, Bell’s character developement grows as series progreses. Despite, being weak in the beginning of the series.

Battle Chronicles

Damachi Battle Chronicles video game is very easy to play. I easliy I tired of annoying notifications. In my opinion, the game way too grindy for me and lost interest in it. I felt that game didn’t live up to my standards at all. Boss fights is kind of jarring and missions gets tedious. There are special events in the game as well. Special events is very typical in free to play games. I forgot to mention that the game developed by Aiming and Team Caravan. Anyways, Battle Chronicles does recap the series especially with the spinoff series “Sword Oratoria”. In Battle Chronicles, you can select characters from different famila like Istar, Hermes and Takemikazuchi. The game has voice acting as well from original cast of the show. If you want to play against other players, there is online PVP which you get the most points to win.

Also, players can upgrade eqipement, skills and form bonds with your familla. Eventually, you will gain more exp and level up your characters. There is side-story based on the characters the player has chosen. Each other have different playstyle and affiliation in the game. Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Battle Chronicle has shutdown in Septmenber 29, 2005 just like Gundam Evolution did. Personally, it doesn’t not bother me because I felt game is too grindy and focuses on microtransactions. I felt the game is pay to win in my opinion but others might not think of it. Well, there are other Damachi video games like “Infinite Combate” which is available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.There is another one called “Memoria Freese” but was shutdown on Feburary 28, 2024.

Overall, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon anime is not bad at all. Bell meets alot of girls but one always catches his eye and her named is Ais Wallenstein. For this reason, Ais Wallenstein is strongests and Bell stops at nothing to date her. There are others like Ryu and Liliruca along with Frey trying to date Bell. If you want a fantasy adventure with main protagonist get stronger. Hence, I will have to watch out the reminder of the series. Besides, Danmachi is quite popular in Japan.
