What is Tougen Anki
Tougen Anki is based of supernatural dark fantasy manga developed by Yura Urushibara. The plot is about teenage named Shiki Ichinose who lives with his adopted father Tsuyoshi. After being expelled from high school due to his delinquent behavior. A mysterious man dressed in white comes to attack Shiki and Tsuyoshi. That man was name Samidare Momoya (Tsuyoshi’s senpai) was apart of Oni Agency who are descendants of Momotarou. Momotarou Agency is at war with Oni for century and main goal is to wipe them out. After Shiki battles Samidare, Tsuyoshi dies in his arms and later enrolled in Rasetsu Academy for children apart of Oni clan. Shiki meets Naito Mudano, who is his teacher along with other students like Ikari, Homare, Juji, Rokuro, Jin and Kuina.
Throughout the series, Ichinose discover his Oni powers such as making guns out of blood. Also, Shiki is one of the eight children of Kishin, which his element is fire. We didn’t know about other 7 children yet become manga is still ongoing. I always wonder that will Shiki and Mikado end the war between the two factions. In Tougen Anki, each character has Blood Eclipse Release such as Jin uses buzzsaws, Homare summons Blood Titan and Rokuro has fans. While, Momotarou has black bacteria to manifest their powers like Tsubakiri uses puppetry, Shinya has foresight and Osuke can copy any move. Momotarou does drag innocent people into their objective but other members question their methods. Shiki wants to create a world where Oni and Momotarou co-exist together. That’s probably ending of the manga but that just speculation.
Tokyo Ghoul
Tokyo Ghoul is based on dark fantasy manga developed by Sui Ishida. The plot is about a college student named Ken Kaneki who meets a woman named Rize Kamishiro. Turns out Rize is a ghoul and gives Kaneki has power of half-ghoul. Now, Kaneki is needs to feed to survive and seek refuge in coffee show called “Anteiku” which he learn about being a ghoul. He meets other characters like Touka Kirishima is also a ghoul and later marries Kaneki, Nikishiki Nishio who goes to same university as Kaneki and has ghoul powers as well. There is a group called CCG (Commission of Counter Ghoul) that combats ghouls. Its been a while since I watch Tokyo Ghoul and Kenkai takes on new identity named Haise Sasaki and apart of Quinx squad.

Qunix is basely investigation having ghoul powers. Tokyo Ghoul does have co-existences between humans and ghouls but not a war between them. While Kaneki fights his own kind like Aogiri Tree and grain new abilities like kakuja which is a transformation of his. Later on in the series that he regain his memories toward the end of the series. We get some insights on CCG members as well, why they hunt ghouls. Ghoul and human fight one another as series progress. Kaneki does go throughout other changes in the series as well. Let’s talk about Tokyo Ghoul and Tougen Anki similarities of both series. I am sorry about my lack of knowledge of what happen in events of Tokyo Ghoul but try to recap it much as possible.
Tokyo Ghoul and Tougen Anki Similarities
Both Tokyo Ghoul and Tougen Anki are both dark fantasy series. Ken Kaneki powers were given while Shiki Ichinose was born with powers. Tokyo Ghoul and Tougen Anki deal with war between two factions. Each series has moral about living life as ghoul and oni. While CCG is maintaining co-existences with human and oni, Momotarou wants to erase onis from the world. Two main protagonist Kaneki and Ichinose has problem fitting into a society that looks down on them. Ken Kaneki does fight has own kind but Shiki Ichinose fights Momotarou but it might change as manga goes on. While Tokyo Ghoul ends and Kaneki is living life with his friends and family. Tougen Anki battle is still going on against oni and momotarou. Both MCs unlock their power and transformations as series goes on. I don’t know about Kaneki’s goal but Shiki wants co-exist before fighting Tsubakiri in Kyoto arc.
Tokyo Ghoul and Tougen Anki are very similar in some way. They touch up on giving character development to members of oni and Momotarou agency. We didn’t see Kaneki’s parent and I don’t know what happen to Ichinose’s family (probably Momotarou got them). We might see Tsuyoshi backstory on how he adopted Shiki in later manga chapter. Both Shiki and Ken makes friends and sometimes antagonists as well. In my opinion, I would check out both series and see what you guys think. There is a comparison to Blue Exorcist and Tougen Anki as well because I can see that. Rin Okumura is a devil and Shiki is really oni. Both Rin and Shiki adopted father are dead. Shiki and Rin gone to school along with learning about their heritage. I just want to mention Blue Exorcist series just for this article.
