Esports in General

Esports is about video games that can be played competitively in tournament spaces just like real Sports. Of course, you have your athletes from NFL, NHL and NBA that play for money. Sports industry is very well known for these brands. You have your Kendrick Lamar Halftime show, esports are look down because “They’re Not Like Us” which real sport brands says. Esports has come along way since early 80s. I remember Nintendo World Championship, which was the first esports along with video game competition out there. There is couple of movies based on video game tournaments such as The Wizard, Pixels (2015) and many more. Fast forward to 2025, the industry has grown significantly throughout the years. I am so proud on how Esports evolved and more people getting into it.

Last year, I went to Esports seminars and events like TheKickBack along with Metfest. These events about education and esports in a nutshell. It offers scholarships, educational programs and live music performance. I haven’t been to any esports event for a while like Redbull Fighting Game tournament and Overwatch Washington Justice homestead. Just being there, hearing the crowd roar and watching how players score. Esports industry is very fascinating, and they put all that hard work to use. Different video game genres have an esports presence such as moba, fighting games, shooters and sports. Let’s started with shooter before we get to others. You got your Call of Duty, Marvel Rivals and Counter Strike. For fighting games, there is Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8 and Guilty Gear Strive.
Esports Events
Moba games, there is League of Legends, which is Riot Games must prized IP and money maker. You guys might know events like EVO, Combo Breaker and many more. Tournament organizers have to get sponsorships and many forms of revenue to keep them afloat. Esports athletes are consist of content creators and streamers such as Valkyrae. They post clips, collab with other creators to build up their social media presences. While on Twitch, they can have sponsorship due to large viewership and personality or persona of the streamer. Esports organizations can reach out to them for recruitment to fill the spot. While Esports teams must work together to win big, someone there is so fallout between them.
During esports tournaments and events, you have your commentators that narrate what happen the game. I enjoy Tasty Steve, James Chen and Yipes, they’re my favorite commentators in FGC. Making matches more engaging and entertaining for epic comebacks along with performing super moves. While during the covid19 pandemic, esports scene was online and didn’t feel the same. Fast forward to 2025, everything was back offline and it was amazing thing, seeing people faces again with connection issues. Don’t forgot about the lagging while trying to fight against someone around the world. Anyways, I hope to go to more Esports events in the near future and one day get invited. I wanted to commentate on a matches but I am practicing with Mugen tournaments.
Not a Real Sport
Some may argue that Esports not a real sport. Just as the title says, I beg to differ that statement. Esports take you on a wild journey and not a waste of time. Nowadays, you can make money playing video games just look at Ninja (Tyler Belvins). I understand that its not a long-term career and not like NFL, where they can make millions of dollars and live off of it. Some people quit because of schooling, family and loss motivation to continue. Athletes can build skills like starting their own organization, mentorships and changing the world. These athletes work harder than any real sports players like Deon Sanders. You might see them on commercials, movies and so many other things. I think it’s a real sport and happy to see it in schools as well.

Esports is a great field to get into, if you enjoy gaming. There is no age limit in Esports but most likely 16-40 depending on how old players are. If you want to get into the industry, you got to have the knowledge for it and expect on video games. You can’t go into as a beginner or a rookie (maybe who knows). Just so you know, I am not expert on Esports myself but talk to and go to certain events revolving that. I will close my saying this, Esports is really blooming right now and never will stop thriving. There is greatness in everyone’s potential to win or go home. It doesn’t matter if you are not the best at different games. As along, you are on steam playing your heart out.
Closing
You can pop off went winning or be disappointed at a loss. Unless you are in the top 8 and receive a medal along with chance to be in qualifiers. That’s why winning and playing your best is all about. You can have fun in Esports tournaments but it’s a very competitive space in indeed. Let me know what you think of Esports in general. If there any Esports events and tournaments in your area, research them and join up. Practice always makes perfect just like an anime mc training arc. Thank you for reading this blogpost and tune in for more from yours truly.
