What is Guilty Gear Strive Dual Rulers
Guilty Gear Strive Dual Rulers is based on Arc System Works fighting game with the same name. It’s an 8 episodes anime series, the plot is about a society that humans and gears (artificial weapons) that rage war with each other. This event was called Crusade, aftermath of the war. Ky Kiske meets a gear named Dizzy, later on their relationship bloom and got married. Dizzy became the queen and Ky as king of Illyria. Both Ky and Dizzy want peace so no gear and humans wouldn’t fight each other. Ky and Dizzy have a son named Sin Kiske (who is born half human and gear). Sin is under care of Sol Badguy due to both Ky and Dizzy being unfit to take care of him. During Ky and Dizzy wedding, an unknown assailant named Unika arrives.
Unika declares war on Gears and freezes Dizzy and Ky. Throughout the course of the anime, Unika and Sin are the main focus. In this article, I will only talk about Unika and her role in the show. Unika starts as an initial antagonist but later on changes her views about gear. For those, who didn’t know Unika, she is a DLC character for season 4 along with Sin’s younger sister in the future. She was not raised by Dizzy and Ky but Neville Hammer (who is anti-gear Politian). Nevile brainwashes Unika thinking gears are evil and doesn’t co-exist with human. Hence, Unika goes on a rampage and become antagonistic in Dual Rulers. Sin and Unika fight countless times in the anime. Each time they dual, both Sin and Unika get closer to each other.
Unika Switch Sides
After talking with Brigette after her battle with Sin. Brigette states that “find who you really are” and have Unika thinking about her actions. During alternate timeline, Nerville sends Unika back to the past to destroy gears. While Nerville creates a virus to wipe out all gears, Unika was betrayed by him. Even, Nerville looks at Unika as a pawn and knew she was a gear that he despises. Even if Unika thinks of Nerville as a father but was sadden by his actions. He reveals to Unika was born from Dizzy and raise her himself. Dizzy is really her mother and Ky is the dad. Nerville uses the virus on himself and transform into a monster. Together, Unika and Sin defeats Nerville with combine power. Unika finally meets her real parents and hugs Sin before leaving to her timeline.
In Guilty Gear Dual Ruler, Unika is a misguided souls that manipulated by a racist that hates gear. Unika wields a blaster gun similar to Elphalt and wear goggles from the future. She is the same movements as Sin, which is the third time they fought. Personally, I haven’t tried Unika in the original game. I have seen gameplay trailer and her fighting game archtypes is a zoner basely like Happy Chaos. Currently, I am waiting for all the DLC to be released in order for me to buy Guilty Gear Strive. Dual Ruler does a good job with presentation and explaining the lore from the game. Two sides hate each other because of Crusade events. Sol and Ky were both apart of the holy order that took part in Crusade.
Gears and Humans Co-Existing
During prologue of Dual Rulers, Ky and Dizzy were enemies. Later on, both of them want peace between two races. The show did mention Justice, who was a gear created by Asuka to end the war. Sol Badguy destroyed Justice her Jack O Valentine and Elphelt possess soul of Aira. Asuka always wanted co-existence between gears and humans along with working with the government for World Peace Experiment. In Dual Rulers, human was afraid of gears during mid-episodes. Sin is the new “The King of Gears” which is a commander type that can activate dormant Gears. Sin activates this ability during episode 7 to help defeat Nervile. He was a key part of the show and later on found out he is a gear too. Unika is a commander type just like her brother.
Anywho, this is not only game that deals with different races fighting against one other. There is Fire Emblem, Valkyrie Chronicles and many more, let me know in the comments if you fund some. In the game, after defeating Nervile, Unika works as a trainee bodyguard for President Vernon under Giovanna’s supervision. We don’t know what will happen next with Unika in the near future. That’s all of my editorial and character analysis of Unika. Again, I don’t own Guilty Gear Strive, but story is kind of interesting. Kinsuke family has gotten bigger because turns out Sol Badguy is Unika’s grandfather. When Unika is born in the present, what role she will have.
