Indie Games Meaning
Indie games meaning is independent game developers without high budget funding from a publisher. It also means that an indie game development company has 1-10 or more staff working on the game. Sorry, if I get the definition wrong and you can correct me in the comments. Don’t get me wrong, I love indie games and willing to play them all than AAA titles. I understand that indie games don’t have exposure to games like Dark Souls and Bader’s Gate. Again, I might be wrong in that opinion. There are indie games that finally getting the love that they deserve. Back in the late 2000s, not a lot of people didn’t play indie games. While my old gaming blog, before COV-19 Pandemic, I talk about them a lot.

I got some developers reach out to me for playable demos and thanking for covering them. Those were the old days but nowadays, my PC can’t handle them. Strictly, I play indie games on consoles now because my PC is for work and many other things. I try not to download too many games on my PC. There is some notable indie games, I have played such as Undertale, The Angel Inn, Oribo and so many others. Can’t name all of them and forgot most of them because it been so long. There is very successful indies like Minecraft, Dave the Diver, Shovel Knight and Five Nights at Freddy’s. Indies are originally, mods then started as a hobby for upcoming game developers. For example, the creator of Tetris, who developed a game on his spare time, while working full-time job.

If you seen the movie Tetris 2023 film, then you will know what I am talking about. I remember Newgrounds days, went hobbyist made game for free with no budget. Nowadays, indie developers can monetize their passion with platforms like Indiegogo, Kickstarter and many others. Some indie developers are self-published, but others reach to for a deal. I just read an article about Phil Spencer who wants to bring exclusives to other platforms for others to enjoy. Thing is that some PC games doesn’t translate well on console but company policies. That’s why bringing games to Steam and GOG is very easier than of consoles. A lot of indie games are on PC because of these restrictions for console users. Don’t fret console users, you can still play indie games at your own time.

You don’t have to worry about compatible issues like PC does. In PC, you will need a powerful PC and graphic card of InteiI5 and Nivida to run games. Along with 10gb of memory and ram for storage space, that’s just me. I am no computer expert but known how they work because I experience it. Other than that, I see indie games get animated series like Among Us and Cuphead. Minecraft is getting a live action movie featuring Jack Black and Jason Momoa. That’s the beautiful of successful indie games because how fans enjoy them and willing to cosplay as characters as well. There are merchandise of these IPs and content creators make videos of them.
Doujin Games
Doujin games is very similar to indie games and the term means hobbyist along with sharing interest in Japan. The term does have categories like manga, video games, music and more. They sell them at a convention called Comiket (which is like Comic-Con but in Japan). In Comiket, there is cosplay and many more events. Doujin games runs very similar to indie games but turn into profit. It all started in the 90s, went PC-98 is around along with Microsoft Windows. In Japan, developers use unauthorized copyright material and embraced by original holders. There copyright laws are different from USA ones. Some of them make enough for a full-time gig like Type Moon’s Tsukihime and Melty Blood Type Lumina.

Team Shanghai Alice who developed Touhou Project and 07th Expansion known for Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. Personally, I love Melty Blood and Fate Stay series in a nutshell. Its funny how fangames can be successful in the long run. These doujin games can be ported to PC storefronts like Steam. Other reach out to Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft for input on porting to consoles. I haven’t play any doujin games since mid-2000s, while I was in college. Did watch some anime adaptation of doujin soft produces throughout the years. Other than that, I will wrap this article up. Indie games and doujin are similar mediums in gaming industry. A thought that you will know fangames can turn into a passion project.

These indie developers put their heart and souls in these titles. I believe in these developers and will try out any indie games. Don’t care if it good and bad, I don’t know I have the budget for them. Its great to see streamers playing them with viewers. In my opinion, we need to appreciate indie games more along with doujin.
