What is Multiversus
Multiversus is a free to play fighting game developed by Player First Games. The game was release on May 28, 2024. Idea of the game was based on Space Jam: A New Legacy movie featuring Lebron James. There was a subreddit called GamingLeakandRumors about developing a Super Smash Bros clone with Warner Bros characters. In February 25 to March 8, 2022, there was closed beta test and folks was excited to play it. When open beta was released, I got a hands-on experience because I play Nickelodeon All Stars Brawl 2 and Brawhalla in my time. Will not talk about that right now but later in this article. Anyways, Multiversus plays just like Super Smash Bros where you pick different characters such as Shaggy Rogers, Superman, Steven Universe and many more. Each character has different classes such as Tank, Bruiser, Mage and Assassin based on their playstyle.
Multiversus offers game modes such as 1vs1, 2vs2, training and single player mode rifts. Note: Multiversus is an online only game, but you can play offline vs mode with a friend. While grinding in the game, players for in-currency to unlock cosmetics and characters. In terms of gameplay wise, Multiversus takes a different approach to Smash Bros ever did. While playing 2vs2 characters can assist others such as Bugs Bunny can travel through underground. Wonder Woman can grant you shields and Batman can deploy smoke bombs. Stages has have hazards like Power Puff Girls Townsville where Mojo Jojo blasts you with his death ray. As of now, Multiversus is on season 4 where Raven (Teen Titans) and Marceline (Adventure Time) were announced. They have new patch balances and game mode called “Wacky Weekend”.
Dead or Alive
Wacky Weekend is a game mode that where fun thing happens in gameplay like big head mode and others. You can play mini-games as well also in Rift mode. In 2025, I don’t know people still play this game because they move on to another game. According to SteamDB, Multiversus player count is 676 which not bad at all. On Twitch, there is 171 viewers and 170 followers on that platform. Not a lot of people streaming it but there is a chance that small streamer can get exposure than game like Marvel Rivals. YouTube goes you can make content because a lot of people felt off of it. Is the game or will it be alive? I have pondered that question, everytime I am thinking about going back to it. Tony Hyunh knows that Player First Games is cooking something behind the scenes. They might have 8 players just like Brawhalla and Super Smash Bros Ultimate in the near future.
I want to see more Warner Bros characters such as Captain Planet, Thundercats, Family Matters and more. Multiverus is a fun game for all and I am glad that use Unreal Engine 5 to updated graphics. Player First Games also added Rollback Netcode just like Street Fighter 6 and many other fighting games. There are more things to do with the game like setting up perks and getting tiers in battle pass. This game is a typical slugfest and knocking your opponents off of stages. One other thing, there is free for all and become the last person standing. Sure, game is declining just like Dragon Ball Sparkling Zero because players moved on to another. After a match, players give toast for their performance during gameplay. In my opinion, I don’t want this game to die because it has won “Best Fighting Game” at The Game Awards 2022. Player First Games is not backing down anytime soon because of that. I haven’t played Multiversus in a while but willing to get back on it soon.
Closing
Multiversus was dying was the get-go and I am not saying the game is bad. I had fun with it but Super Smash Bros Ultimate will also be number one platformer fighter on the market. There is so much the game change as far as gameplay goes. They did do a live stream about adding a blocking mechanic but it was off the table. I hate to see this game get cancelled but players have move on to another game. It had crossplay rollback netcode as well. I don’t know what Tony Huynh is going to do or what Player First Games will work on after this. Multiversus is available on Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X but get it before its gone.
Really enjoy using Taz, Raven and The Powerpuff Girls because they fit my playstyle. If you want to download Multiversus, go for it. Its free to play and let me know what you think of the game.
