What is Kamen Rider and Pretty Cure
Kamen Rider vs Pretty Cure both tv show that aired in Japan on Sunday Mornings. While Kamen Rider is a live action super sentai series for males. Pretty Cure is animated magical girl show dedicated to female demographic. Kamen Rider is first started in 1971 with very first series, where KR1 on the quest to defeat Shocker. There are eras based on Kamen Rider such as Showa, Heisei and Reiwa. First KR is an insect motif just like Saban Big Bad Beetleborgs in USA. The designs have change throughout the years Kamen Rider signature move is the flying kick, which he used to defeat villains. Sometimes they use weapons to defeat them or change forms like Power Rangers. Speaking Power Rangers, they were originated in Japan before coming stateside. Saban uses stock footage from Japan to save money with their own shots. I haven’t Power Rangers in so long but older enough to remember.
Pretty Cure started in February 2004 with its first series Futwari Wa Pretty Cure. Futwari Wa Pretty Girl is about two protagonists Nagisa Misumi and Honaka Yukishiro fight against organization called Dark Zone. Pretty Cure doesn’t have eras like Kamen Rider but different heroes in each series. The series follows female protagonist finding a cute companion to help transform to fight off evil. PC is just like Sailor Moon and many other magical girl anime out there. They have their pros and cons in terms of character development. Sometimes main female character has a love interest that cause conflict in the show. That’s pretty much the franchise is all about.
Kamen Rider vs Pretty Cure
Both series is owned by Toei Company which is known for One Piece, Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon. Kamen Rider has an American adaptation called “Masked Rider” which aired on Fox Kids in 1995. Along with Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight on December 13, 2008 on The CW. The show was cancelled after season 1. Pretty Cure had a stateside present like Futari Wa, which was aired on 4Kids back on February 24, 2006. There were some changes from original Japanese source material with name changes such as Nagisa Misumi as Natalie Blackstone. After one was Smile Precure, in English was renamed Glitter Force: Doki Doki. Glitter Force suffers the faith changes as faith as Futari Wa Pretty Cure. These American adaptations didn’t receive well from fans of the original series. Moving right along, both have monsters of the week format.
As established, both Kamen Rider and Pretty Cure aired on Sunday instead on Monday through Saturday. I also forgot the crossover films that both franchises have. What about story arc? Where characters get betray or get a new upgrade? During finale of these shows, everyone live happily and new series will replace that. Trust me I know these troupes because I have watch magical girls and Tokusatsu shows in the past. I wonder if we see a crossover between them in the near future. In this article I won’t go into each show but mention some I have watched.
Closing
I have watched Kamen Rider Ex-Aid which is a video game motif show. Pretty Cure side was Smile Pretty Cure along with Delicious Party Pretty Cure which is about food. Another Kamen Rider show was Geats, which is like a battle royale style show. I love how these series are very creative with their terms. Those transformations take so long, and I don’t understand why villains have to wait. They can just interrupt the transformation and get on with it. Due to the success, there is video games, toys and many other merchandises long with stage plays. Both franchises are very successful and growing strong by the minute. On that topic of Tokusatsu, I have watched Go Go Rangers because they did had Showdown Sundays. Which Dragon Rangers fight off against minions in a arena.
It touch on Super Sentai in a nutshell and highly recommended checking that series out. Anyways, I didn’t watch all of them but love how it shapes your Sundays.
