Kpop Demon Hunters Recap
Kpop Demon Hunters is a musical animated movie developed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. The plot is about three female pop stars Rumi, Mira and Zoey who fights off demons along singing. These girls are called Huntrix, they use their music to bring harmony and keep peace in Korea. Huntrix comes from different generations to keep Honmoon in place from Demons led by Gwi-Ma. During opening sequence, Huntrix is late for their concert and gets attack by Demons. After defeating demons, Huntrix gets some rest and relaxation, but Rumi just release their new single “Golden”. In the demon world, Gwi-Ma punishes one the lesser one for its failure. Jinu appears front of Gwi-Ma and has a purpose to defeat Huntrix. Gwi-Ma agrees and sends Jinu to the real world. During practice, Rumi voice starts to break which concerns Zoey and Mira.
Rumi starts to push away her Mira and Zoey because of her demon marking. Mira and Zoey purpose to see a doctor to fix Rumi voice. After going to the doctor’s, Huntrix bumps into group of boys in the alley. Huntrix gets annoyed and awe but their appearance. Curious to know about them, Huntrix spies on them and boys introduce themselves as Saja Boys. Saja Boys wins fans over and Huntrix felt envy towards. Rumi realizes that they have demon markings after they leave. Huntrix goes to a bathhouse which Zoey is delighted to go but meets up with Saja Boys. Mira and Zoey fight off demons, while Jinu conforts that Rumi is a half demon and hunter. After bathhouse fight, Rumi is more evasive toward Mira and Zoey.
Rumi is a Demon?
Rumi meets up with Jinu about his past and makes a deal with Gwi-Ma to keep his voice. Both Rumi and Jinu bonded, which caught attention of Mira along with Zoey. Rumi questions herself about demon marks and Huntrix wants to make a diss-track to Saja Boys. Knowing that Honmoon is danger by Saja Boys and Gwi-ma, their manager’s purpose events for two kpop groups. Saja Boys manage to steal Huntrix fans and offer souls to Gwi-Ma. During idoi awards, Saja Boys was supposed to perform but stalled, Huntrix takes their place but was tricked. The performance was ruined and expose Rumi as a demon, which Mira and Zoey were not pleased. Rumi goes to Celine (who is the caretaker) of the girls in the movie.
She felt that no one would accept her and doesn’t care about Homoon. Rumi wanted to tell Mira and Zoey but it will break them apart. Saja Boys announced that they will put on a performance at the stadium. They manage to bring Gwi-Ma to the real world and Rumi appears to sing as Mira and Zoey joins her. Gwi-Ma blasts Rumi but Jinu sacrifices himself to save her. Huntrix built up enough confidence and defeated Gwi-Ma along with restoring Honmoon. Afterwards, Rumi, Mira and Zoey reconcile that they don’t want to be apart again. Huntrix is signing autographs and movie ends. Kpop Demon Hunters is one of the best animated movies I have ever watched.
Kpop Demon Hunters Thoughts
I see this after final season Squid Games which is another Korean media as well. My favorite song is “Takedown”, I can’t stop listening to this song because its absolute banger for the summer. I am not a huge fan of Kpop but after watching this movie, I am locked in. Saja Boys reminds me of BTS (which I already heard of), and other boy bands out there. Soundtrack is amazing and keeps the movie going, along with flashy animation which reminds me of TMNT Mutant Mayham. Along with others like Arcane League of Legends, Spider Man: Into the Spidey-Verse and Predator Killer of Killers using the same animation technique. I love goofy expression that main characters just like Turning Red. Zoey is my favorite out of the Huntrix because she reminds me of Musa from The Winx Club.
Give it up to Sony Pictures Animation for their stellar piece of work. I didn’t have no problems with the film. Some of the lip syncs were kind off went character where singing but its minor. Voice casts of the movie, Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop and May Hong along Ji-young Yoo did amazing job. During ending credits, they showed voice actors and recording their lines which are rare in movies. I like the weapons such as Rumi (sword), Mira (woldo) and Zoey (throwing knvies). The film has sense of humor as well which some of them fall flat. Kpop Demon Hunters is a platinum hit and fans who are not into Korean music will enjoy this.
Closing
The film will have you dancing and singing at the same time. I am hoping for a sequel or make an appearance in Fortnite. They might have a tv show which explores more about Rumi, Mira and Zoey backstory and takes on rival Kpop groups. I would highly recommend for anime fans as well because they have a lot of elements in this movie. Kpop Demon Hunters is available to watch on Netflix.
