What is Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls?

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls is 4vs4 tag team video game developed by Arc System Works who brought you Guilty Gear and Blazblue series. Arc System Works has team up Marvel Games to bring fresh faces and newcomers to fighting game genre. Also, there is no plot right now but Arc System Works did announce the game included a trailer at EVO (Evolution Champion Series) in August 2025. Bascially, the game is another Marvel fighter. Even there was a panel discussion about the game (can be found on YouTube). Marvel is no stranger to collaboration with different video game companies. Ever heard of Marvel Vs Capcom, that’s right one of the most iconic crossovers in the making. Capcom made a power move to team up with most recognized comic book companies Marvel Comics. While the newest IP is still in development until 2026 of next year.

I will be following what is happening into the game in the meantime. Arc System Works’s Takeshi Yamanaka stated that “development team is very selective criteria about fighter selection, which as popular faces of Marvel and obscure picks that never been in fighting game before”. Game director Kazuto Sekine explained they wanted to make 1vs1 or 3vs3 fighting game but opted out for 4v4 for capturing intensity of multiple on-screen combat with teamups. Speaking of fighters, there were some that has been announce like Storm, Star Lord, Kamala Khan, Dr. Doom, Captain America and Iron Man. Don’t forget there is Spider Man and Ghost Rider but there will more in the near future. Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls doesn’t operate like traditional 2D fighters with quarter-circle motion or hold directional button to perform moves. I am going to gameplay mechanics right now.

Gameplay and Art Style

While I was playing closed beta of Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls, its play like DNF Duel and Dragon Ball FighterZ along with Blazblue Cross Tag Battle. The player selects 4 Marvel characters on each team with assist attack. First, you must build your support meter to call on your teammates and have to fight one on one before someone joins. During battle, you can switch between each character at will and perform teamup attacks. Special attack is directional instead of quarter-circle motion and EX attack that cost meter. There are two super moves, and your team can come in to do there like MVC2. In gameplay, characters can be knocked into different parts of the stage like Strive. Each character has unique skills like Kamala can stretch her arms, Storm uses wind and Star Lord got elemental blasters.

As far art style goes, Arc System Works does it again with in-depth anime aesthetic just like Strive. Captain America and Iron Man has a new suit, and Storm looks like a queen as always. Marvel is no stranger to anime, do you remember their line-up with Iron Man, Blade, X-Men and Wolverine back in October 2010. Also, there is Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers, personally I have never seen this show. Each character has more expressive and sparkier in their personalities. Personally, I love the intro and quotes went they meet each other like Cap and Doom. In closed beta, there is only one stage and there is a ton of easter eggs which I will get into later. I know some people will be turn off of the character designs, but I am a blerd and love it.

Closed Beta Impressions

My overall impressions of Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls, this is a fighting game I have been waiting for. Arc System Works did amazing job making it playable for newcomers and veterans of fighting games. I don’t have a main yet but enjoying playing Storm and Dr. Doom. There is a lot of easter eggs like Baxter Building, Matt Murdock law firm and Jane Van Dyke shop. Along with Dazzler and J Johan Jameson ranting on the screen along with Damage Control. Arc System Works and Marvel make sure to put easter eggs for fans alike. Anywho, lobby was full in east coast but manage to play some online matches. In lobby, you can select avatars, review information center and chat with other players. Personally, I don’t encounter any issues with closed beta. Despite, a huge array of players in the beta.

I have lost and won some matches along with creating combos. Forgot to mention that you can launch opponents in the air to do air combos as well. I know Maximillon Dood, Justin Wong, Sonic Fox and others content creators enjoying it. At first, I thought I wasn’t going to get the invite but during work I got the email. In the email, PlayStation Beta Program stated that “It’s your lucky day, you’re invite to be apart of Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls closed beta!” I had to go on social media about this and went live on Saturday at Twitch. Schedule was September 5-7, 2025 and there were some streamers that I followed play this as well. For future of Marvel Tokon, I know there will be crossplay and English dub of the game. There will be probably story mode and more online modes like ranked and casuals.

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls Thoughts

I have a wishlist for the roster, for example, Deadpool, The Punisher, Blade, Sentry, Cloak and Dagger (love them in Marvel Rivals). Along with Squirrel Girl, Black Panther, The Thing and The Hood. That’s pretty my wishlist, let me know about what you want in Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls. Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls has great rollback netcode and didn’t encounter any disconnect whatsoever. There have probably been minor issues for some, but it didn’t stop me from having fun with the game. My rating for Marvel Tokon is 10/10 for me because this is a great fighter for beginners to get into. I had a wonderful weekend playing this game and wish there was training mode. Therefore, I learn quickly how to play the game before full version. Doubtedly, its will not like fighters will you ever see in modern times.

There was a video from roofmonger about getting decline entry to closed beta, but I got in. Besides, I was very excited to play the game for myself. Hopefully for more developments and details on the game’s progress near futureAnother reason to look out for the game even more Beside, there is alot of Marvel fighting games like this one. If there is a open beta of the game, I highly recommend downloading it and playing it for yourself. Certainly, I have played Marvel Rise of the Imperfect in the past. But I have stopped after playing Marvel vs Capcom series. There was a closed beta tournament from TampaNeverSleeps on YouTube. If you play closed beta of Marvel Tokon, share your thoughts below.
