MOBA Games Like League of Legends
There are a lot of MOBA games like League of Legends throughout the years. Did you know multiplayer online battle arena games are inspired by Warcraft? League of Legends is developed by Riot Games and released on October 27, 2009. The goal of the game is to be destroyed by the opposite team Nexus to win. Lol has over 100 Legends to choose from such as Jinx, Vi, Ahiri, Ekko and many more. Each character has different abilities and types of roles they’re in. There are total of five players each side with minions to help them destroy turrets. You can gain experience to level up and get runes to upgrade your legend. League of Legends is known for its fanbase and toxic community, there is a tv show called “Arcane” and upcoming fighting game called 2XKO.
Personally, I am not a fan of League of Legends but I played it in the past. Anyways, I am not here to talk about whole game. There are some MOBA games is very similar to League of Legends that I have tried but without further ado. Let’s get right to the first MOBA Games like League of Legends, Hi-Rez Studios Smite.
Smite – Hi-Rez Studios
Smite is a moba game developed by Hi-Rez Studios and released in March, 25 2014. The game is very similar to LOL and has the same gameplay. Players take control of gods from Norse, Greek, Egyptian, Chinese mythology. Instead of top-down like League, its third-person perspective, Smite offers same perks as League like items, gaining exp and many more. Due to the success of Smite, there is a sequel and crossover skins such as Transformers, Avatar the Last Air Bender, RWBY and Stranger Things. Players go through lanes to destroy each other towers. Personally, I haven’t play it in a years but its not easy for beginners. Smite is free to play and available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Switch and Amazon Luna.
Paragon – Epic Games
Paragon is the latest attempt at capturing MOBA crowd, but it was cancelled in April 2018. Epic Games release an open beta in August 2016 but have trouble sustaining a playerbase during that time. Paragon is very similar to Smite with three lanes. Just like League of Legends gameplay, you have to destroy opposite team towers and inhibitors. Each character has abilities and weapons along with their types. You also have your minions, loot boxes and allow characters to level up. Even if the game shut down, there was attempt in December 5, 2022 called “Paragon: The Overprime” but was shut down in April 22, 2024. I remember playing alittle bit of the game but loss interest continuing the game.
Dragon Ball Gekishina Squarda – Ganbarion
Dragon Ball Gekishina Squarda is the latest moba games like League of Legends. I played the open network test and found myself enjoying the game. Ganbarion is known for Jump Ultimate Stars, One Piece World Seeker and many more anime titles. The game is to get the Dragon Balls from opposite side of each team. While gods of destructions guarding it, but each team has two Zen-ohs that can weaken them. Each character has a type damage (Goku), tank (Vegeta) and technical (Gohan) along with support card. Different characters has abilities like Goku turning Super Saiyan and Frieza uses his minions. Dragon Ball Squarda release date is unknown at the moment.
Other MOBA Games Like League
There is Pokémon Unite which is very similar to LOL, the gameplay is very simply getting the highest score in 10 mins. In Pokémon fashion, each is more effective than others like weaknesses. The game has over 62 playable Pokémon but downside of this is no scoreboard. Personally, I have seen people play Pokémon Unite and it looks fun. Dota is another multiplayer online battle arena which did have legal disputes with Blizzard Entertainment. The game is very similar to League and considers a rival title of Dota. Again, you are a team of five and have to destroy “Ancients”, with different characters along with their abilities.
This game is developed by Valve (who brought you Team Fortress, Half Life and Left 4 Dead). Personally, I haven’t played Dota but seen some clips on YouTube about it. There is a Netflix show based on game called “Dota: Dragon’s Blood”, feel free to check it out. There is some mentions like Arena of Valor which is for IOS and Android along with Nintendo Switch. Heroes of the Storm which consists of characters from Starcraft, Overwatch, Diablo and more. Another one is Predecessor which is under the radar for more people. The question is whether it is easy to play. MOBAs are a learning curve for beginners alike but mastering them is difficult.

There are plenty of moba games just like League of Legends out there for you to try. In my opinion, Dragon Ball Gekishina Sqaurda is the easiest moba I have played. I didn’t need items to upgrade my character because I found that distracting. Anyways, playing games like Smite and League takes time to get use to.
