In the gaming industry, there are video game ripoffs that tries to become original or stand out from the rest. Due to the success of original source or product in question. A gaming company tries to replicate the same game with their own spin on it. I know a lot of games are inspired by Street Fighter, Castlevania, Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog. In this article, I will be listing the most ripped off video game franchises. I understand that certain games are inspired by others and reason why they created them. Really can see it’s no different from original title but poorly receive by fans. Here goes nothing and the list of ripoffs that I found.

Expect No Mercy – Microforum

Expect No Mercy is a MK ripoff based on virtual reality fighting game developed by Microforum. I remember playing this on MS DOS and was not a fan of it. Expect No Mercy uses the same digitized sprites with real people. Don’t forgot the fatalities and different archetypes of characters. Fighting game content creator Matt McMuscle did a video about it. Expect No Mercy was released in 1996, while 1995 live action movie come out before. The plot is about VR martial arts academy used to train highly skilled assassins. US Government got their own martial arts master to fight off these assassins. Gameplay wise, it was very choppy and abysmal at its finest. There are other Mortal Kombat rip offs like War Gods, Tattoo Assassins and Mace the Dark Age.

Death Note: Killer Within – Bandai Namco

Death Note Killer Within is a social deduction video game based on manga by Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ohba. The game is very similar Innersloth’s Among Us, but there are four classes. While Among Us has two classes like Imposter and Crewmate. Killer Within has Investigators, L, Kira and Kira’s Follower. The goal of the game is to find out who is Kira and arrest that person (Investigators). While Kira, you can punish anyone include your followers. They have everything that Among Us has like customization and many more. If you want to buy Death Note Killer Within, its available on PlayStation 4/5 and Steam.

Stumble Guys – Kitka

I want to put this on the list because Stumble Guys because it’s a rip-off of Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout. Stumble Guys have the same elements of Fall Guys like customization, be the last one standing and buy cosmetics like skins. There are more Fall Guys like Sonic Rumble and many more. I haven’t play the game myself but seen content creators stream the game on Twitch. Stumble Guys is available on PlayStation 4/5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One along with Mobile.

Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba – Sweep the Board is based on the manga with same name by Koyoharu Gotouge. This is a shameless Mario Party developed by Nintendo. You play as your favorite characters from the manga series such as Tanjiro Kamado, Inosuke Hashibira and Zenitsu Agatsuma. Each board has night and day cycle which change board in different ways. Instead of stars, you get the most points to win. There are mini games like Mario Party and difference between it is. You fight bosses with quick time events. Other than that, they have support characters like Nezuko Kamado. Demon Slayer Sweep the Board the Board is available on PlayStation 4/5, Nintendo Switch, Steam and Xbox Series X.

Chex Quest – Digital Café

Chex Quest is based on General Mills cereal based on the same name. The game is developed by Digital Café and it’s a nonviolent version of Doom for younger audiences. You play as a Chex Warrior from the planet Baziok. Chex Warrior is on the quest to foil an alien invasion by Felmoids. In gameplay, it’s very similar to Doom with armor, weapons and health. I have played some Doom-clones like Hexen, Heretic and many more. If you want to buy some Chex, go to your local grocery store but for the game. Its available on Steam.

Foamstars – ToyLogic

Foamstars is a third person shooter game developed by Toylogic and published by Square Enix. The game is heavenly inspired by Splatoon (some may debate this).  Goal of Foamstars is to foam up your opponents and win the game. There are different characters to choose from based on range and abilities. Along with game modes like Smash the Stars, Rubber Party (escort the payload ish) and many more. I understand that its not like Splatoon or not but judging by gameplay and mechanics. Its sort of similar in my opinion alone. Foamstars is available now for free on PlayStation 4 and 5.

Bombergounds: Reborn – Gigantic Duck

Bombergrounds: Reborn is a massive multiplayer battle royale game developed by Gigantic Duck. The game is very similar to Konami’s Bomberman franchise. You play as different animals that armed with weapons and bombs. There are powerups as well and many other mechanics in the game. I used to play this on PC but due to my poor hardware and specs. Bombergrounds is very fun game and it has inspired by Bomberman but if you want to try it out. Buy Bombergrounds on Steam and not other consoles.

Closing

There are some games that rip off Super Smash Bros, Fortnite and many more. I have a lot of games that has clones but will not name them all. Even they’re trying to stand out for the rest.
