Open vs Closed Beta
Open vs closed beta is when game developers put out to gather feedback and give players hands-on experience. Ob meaning is the game is available for everyone to try out. Closed beta is limited number of players who are randomly selected. Some content creators get an early lead due to following they have. That’s why some people are very salty about this. Non content creators sometimes get it and jealous of others because they didn’t get picked. Its really depending on the developer whether to do open or closed beta. They do announce it on State of Play, The Game Awards and Xbox Showcase along with encouraging viewers to Wishlist their game. Players can also preorder video games to play beta of the game. That’s another marketing strategy on video game developers instead of putting it out for free.

Bandai Namco Entertainment did it with Dragon Ball Sparkling Zero and players have to preorder the game on order to have early access. Speaking of betas, I have played Monster Hunter Wilds open beta 2 along with previous. Let me tell you that Arkveld is the toughest monster out there. It took two attempts to take that bad boy down and loss. In February 2025, I will be trying out two betas Sonic Racing CrossWorlds closed beta along with Fatal Fury City of the Wolves open beta this weekend. I will let you know my thoughts on my social media post. Anyways, back on topic, I have tried betas and some I didn’t enjoy. One was My Hero Ultra Rumble, which was a free to play battle royale based on Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia manga series. I felt that certain characters were overpowered like All Might and many more.
Open Beta Test
While I was streaming the game, a viewer was telling me that “it takes practice to master thing game” and that’s true indeed. I play some of the game, but it wasn’t for me at all. During gameplay, I got some eliminations and rarely got any wins. In my opinion, I like My Hero One’s Justice better than Ultra Rumble. There are more I played in the past like Dragon Ball the Breakers, which is a survival game based on Akira Toriyama Dragon Ball manga series. The goal of the game is to survive or prevent other from escaping. I didn’t have a problem with this game and had a lot of fun. It reminds me of Dead by Daylight in a way. Don’t really know if the game is still alive or dead but highly recommended playing it.

There is crossplay beta as well to mention such as Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) and The King of Fighters XV. I didn’t get a choice to play Guilty Gear Strive crossplay beta unfortunately but will buy the full version of the game. Anyways, there is a lot of open betas, I have tried and can’t name them all. I am thankful for opportunities for a hands-on experience with these open betas. Hope to continue to try out many open betas in 2025 and beyond. I will be now moving to closed betas.
Closed Beta
There were some closed betas I have tried such as Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8. I had a blast with these games. Love how they revamp some of the original characters like Kazyua, Jin, Nina Willams and many more. Heat system is amazing touch and keeps the flow of the battle. SF6 makes charge characters more unique and easier. I never was a Chun-Li and Guile main until now. Mostly, I pick Jamie because of his playstyle. Overall, Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6 was the best installments of the franchise, I even played throughout fighting game history. That’s pretty much it for closed beta, sorry my memory is so bad. I want to mention some games that had open or closed betas. There was XDefiant, Call of Duty Modern Warfare II and DNF Duel.

I had fun with all three of these games so far. Sadly, XDefiant is shutting down and I haven’t brought DNF Duel yet. DNF Duel is the same universe as Khazan the First Berserker (another beta I signed up for). Call of Duty for instance, I haven’t brought a COD games in years. There are some betas I have missed in years but went price drop. I will buy them, if I am up to it. When someone play betas, you are ahead of other people like Kirito from Sword Art Online. Kirito tried the closed beta, while others didn’t because he is ahead of everyone. That’s why some people have that sigma of closed beta players. It’s a minor issue in betas in general.
Closing
In closing, If I don’t get pick for a closed beta, I don’t want to cry out it. Its random chance like playing cards. You pick a card, and the rest can be discarded. Open betas are anybody can experience along with making content on it. There is the best in my opinion instead of getting salty of others getting a chance.
