Superman Animated Movies
On Thursday July 10, 2025, I have watched two Superman animated movies just before James Gunn film that’s released in theaters on July 11, 2025. In honor of James Gunn’s 2025 live action Superman film, I will review both animated movies which are not a part of Tomorrow-verse. First all is 2011 All-Star Superman, which is based on comic created by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. Other film is Superman vs The Elite which is based off comic storyline “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?”. Superman vs The Elite was released in 2012 and it’s a part of DC Universe Animated Original Movies era. There are some other Superman animated movies but will mention them towards end of the post.
I already review another Warner Bros Property, Looney Tunes like Tweety Bird and probably new Daffy Duck/Porky Pig movie. The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie released in 2024 but takes to Ketchup Entertainment for purchasing it from Warner Bros. We are not here to talk about a Looney Tunes movie but will do a Space Jam 3 wishlist or something along the line later. Back on topic, I will be talking about All-Star Superman first because James Gunn took inspiration for his film. My apologizes if I miss some things during the review of both films in advance. Here we go with All-Star Superman animated movie summary.
All-Star Superman
The plot of All-Star Superman is Superman stops clone but gets overdose by solar radiation. Lex Luthor was behind time-bomb that astronauts explore the sun. Clark Kent realizes that he is slowing down due to large amounts of radiation. While helping Lois Lane, Clark reveals that he is Superman and takes her to Fortress of Solitude during her birthday. Lois and Clark spend time together, she becomes defensive and wanders into a lab. She grabs a gun and shoots Clark in the chest. Clark gives Lois a serum to grant her Superman powers for 24 hours. Lois loves the idea and drinks it, now she goes by Superwoman. Superman and Superwoman fights off Subterranosauri, Altas along Samson arrives to help. Altas and Samson flirts with Lois which anger Clark, even challenging them to double arm wrestling match.
Later two astronauts, Bar-El and Lilo, who have grunge against Clark. Both of them, powers were weakened due to kryptonite. Clark puts them in Phantom Zone and later on tells Lois he is dying. He also interviews Lex Luthor due to being sentenced to death and being pursue by Parasite. While in an electric chair, Lex drinks Superman serum and escape prison. Lex started to build a robot along with his niece and attacks Daily Planet. Clark shoots Lex and two of them battle. In the progress, Superman destroys Solaris which turns sun blue. Luthor had regrets and Superman sacrifice himself to turn sun back to normal. After Superman’s sacrifice, Lois stated to Jimmy Olsen that “he will come back someday and I will be waiting”.
Superman All-Star Thoughts
I would say this movie was very heartwarming because Superman cares about the people around him like Lois. Later on, the comics, both Lois and Superman have a son called Johnathan Kent (I might be wrong about that). Anywho, I haven’t read comics but seen them from YouTuber. Of course, there is going to be some content from original comic. Lex Luthor questions his morals and rivalry of Superman. I have to admit that introducing to Solaris was too fast. He had to fight Solaris towards end of the film. That’s just my opinion alone but speaking of ending, Luthor is going to recreate formula of Superman’s genetic structure. My opinion is to create an army of Superman but who knows. Voice actors of the following: James Denton (Superman).
Christina Hendricks (Lois Lane), Anthony LaPaglia (Lex Luthor) and Robin Atkin Downes (Solaris). Overall, All-Star Superman was not a bad movie, but something is falling off the wagon. You get to see Superman frailty and weakness throughout the picture. When Superman goes to the sun it was impactful scene in the movie. Also, Grant Morrison did stated that story about his father passing away from cancer. I would recommend this movie to non-comic readers. All-Star Superman is available on DVD along with original comic storyline to purchase. Let’s talk about last animated movie in this blogpost. Note: All-Star Superman movie was written by Dwayne McDuffie (who is known for Static Shock).
Superman Vs The Elite
Superman vs The Elite starts off went Bialya and Pokolistan are going to war with each other. In Metropolis, Atomic Skull is killing citizens and Superman criticizing him. After the fight Pokolistan uses bio weapons on Biayla forces. Superman saves Biayala and a group of vigilantes assist him. They introduce themselves is Manchester Black, Coldcast, Menagerie and Hat. Manchester Black shows Superman his past and had a younger sister named Vera Black. Superman and The Elite saves a Subway train from falling underwater. Manchester attempts to kill the terrorists, but Superman stops him. He also broadcasts about dealing with villains their own way. Superman is teleported in The Elite base of operations to convince them to stop their methods. Atomic Skulls breaks out of jail and battle The Elite along with Superman.
Afterwards, Atomic Skull was executed by Manchester Black along with leaders of Pokolistani and Bialyan. Which angers Superman punching Manchester Black and is willing to fight them. Black transports Superman to the moon and has their duel. Coldcast thought he killed Superman but he appears to use their methods. Back in Metropolis, Superman uses his heat vision to lobotomize Manchester Black. Manchester was scared why Superman is using same methods as The Elite. Superman tells Black that he save his friends and killing is wrong. Which Lois and other citizens of Metropolis applauded for Superman’s speech. Movie ends there, this was one of the best Superman animated movies I enjoy.
Superman vs The Elite Thoughts
Superman is a symbol of peace and has his own way of handling justice. He did kill someone in Injustice and Zack Synder film. Superman would unalive someone if you push him too far. I love The Elite and want to see more of them in the near future. Voice cast of the movie as follows. George Newbern (Superman) who reprise his role but animated series. Pauley Perrette (Lois), Robin Atkin Downes (Manchester Black) and many more. Speaking of war, there is one going on with Russia, Ukraine, Iran and Iseral. In my opinion, I want them to save fighting with one other. Enough about politics, the film takes about right from wrong.
Superman can be wrong in some cases, but he doesn’t want to fail his parents Johathan and Martha Kent. Animation kind of reminds me of a Saturday morning cartoon which they did parody in the opening of the movie. If you want a good movie, I would also recommend this film. Superman vs The Elite is available now on DvD/Bluray along with comic as well.

There are some honorable mentions like Superman Unbound, The Death of Superman and Red son. Make sure to check out those movies as well. I am not a huge fan of Man of Steel but his methods can be question. People thought he can beat Goku from Dragon Ball in a fight. He also appearance in games like Multiversus and most iconic hero in DC Comics. There might be more Super animated movies in the coming years and I want a new game as well.
