The Amazing Digital Circus Recap
The Amazing Digital Circus is an adult-animated web series developed by Gooseworx. Digital Circus is released on October 12, 2023, on YouTube (later on Netflix in 2024). The plot is about a group of humans with virtual avatars that are stuck inside world called Digital Circus. Digital Circus is run by Caine (who is a ringmaster with teeth with eyeballs), he is an eccentric and forces our main characters into wild adventures. While these avatars don’t have any memory of their past lives. They have to keep their insanity and not become abstract (turn into a monster). Major characters are Pomni (a red/blue jester) who wants to find the way out. Jack (a purple rabbit) is very arrogant and self-centered. Kinger (a king chess piece), that hides under pillows. Zooble (a being with parts), she doesn’t like going on adventures.
Ragatha (a doll that looks like Raggedy Ann) and Gingle (a who wears theater masks). Each character has different traits on mental health. In the beginning, Caine explains about Void that no one should go to. Also, about Digital Circus, while Pomni is the newcomer and gets acquainted with others. She finds out that one of them has turned abstract “Kaufmo” in the first episode “pilot”. Speaking of the pilot, Caine informs them that their adventure is to catch Gloinks. Jack, Dingle and Kinglr meet Gloink Queen under digital circus. While Ragatha and Pomni look for Kaufmo (who later turned abstract). On the run with Pomni sees Ragatha glitching and loses her insanity. While going to the Void, Caine teleports and sends her back to the circus. As Kaufmo comes closer, Caine sends him into the deep where all the other abstracts are.
NPC Madness
Episode 2 “Candy Carrier Chaos, our characters go to Candy Canyon Kingdom adventure to help Princess Loulilalu to get back syrup from group of bandits. The bandits lead by Gummigoo gives out heroes a Mad Max like vehicle chase. While Jack, Ragatha, Kinger and Dingle truck goes into chocolate. While Pomni and Gummigoo truck goes to a grid like place, where NPCs are in T-poses. Gummigoo explains what his purpose is of exist along with his comrades. Ponmi cheers him out and they found a way out of the grid. While Jack and others meet a Fudge Monster (who was banned from eating the inhabitants). They reach a deal with Fudge Monster and meet up with Ponmi. After completing the adventure, Fudge Monster eats inhabitants of Candy Canyon Kingdom. Episode 3 “The Mystery of Mildenhall Manor”, group goes to a haunted mansion to investigate different paranormal activities.
Pomni and Kinger find records of Baron Mildenhall about monsters in the house. Kinger uses a shotgun to fight off the creatures. Jack, Dingle and Ragatha meet Baron Mildenhall’s wife for tea. While Zooble goes to therapy because she doesn’t want to go on Caine’s Adventure. Caine thinks about why nobody goes on his adventures, meanwhile Kinger tells Ponmi about his abstract wife. As Pomni comforts Kinger, both of them get out of Hell. That’s completes the Baron Mildenhaill adventure and last episode “Fast Food Masquerade”. Zooble looks about a mask for Gangle and Caine sends our major characters to a fast food restaurant, Spudsy’s. Gangle is the shift manager, while Ponmi works the crash register. Jack is cleaning out and Ragatha is line cook.
References and Thoughts
Gangle behavior started to bother the group. While Pomni meets up with Gummigoo but has no memory of their encounter. Gangle jumps into traffic and throws her new mask away. Caine gives Gangle performance review and asks Zooble to rejoin the group. The Amazing Circus is about mental health and takes inspiration from “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream” which Gooseworx stated. There are some references from video games and real life as well. Video games references like Diner Dash, Luigi’s Mansion and Candy Crush from the past episodes. Animation is done by Gitch Productions which works with indie animation projects. Feel free to check them out on their YouTube channel. It very nostalgic and reminds me of early 2000s CGI animated shows like Reboot and Rolle Polie Olie.
Voice cast is amazing like Gooseworx who voice Bubble along with Sean Chiplock (Kinger). Lizzie Freeman who voiced Pomni along with Micheal Kovach (Jack also my favorite character in the series). Animation YouTuber SabreSpark was right, we need to support small indie animation projects. Hazin Hotel was greenlit for two seasons but not The Amazing Digital Circus. This show has potential and focuses on depression, isolation and many more that people go through in the world. Although, there is a manga adaptation and people cosplay as Ponmi along with nominated for 51st Annie Awards. Glitch did announce “more Digital Circus with full nine-episode season” in production. I am waiting for these episodes to come out in 2025. There is some creepy pasta elements in the show as well. The show is very quirky and zany just like 1990s cartoons in my childhood. Character designs set the show apart.
Closing
I like Pomni and Caine’s design because expressiveness in their personalities. Each character has close ups, digging deep on the character viewpoint. Yes, it’s a psychological drama filled with comedy, but some viewers might have trauma watching this. Theme song is more magical along with ending went developers ask viewers to support the show. The Amazing Digital Circus is one of the kind shows that any age group would enjoy. I can’t wait to see a full series of this.
