Vash the Stampede and Himura Kenshin
Vash the Stampede and Himura Kenshin are anime protagonists that branded as killer in the past. Himura Kenshin is the main character in Rurouni Kesnhin and has a nickname called Hitokiri Battousai. He lives his live becoming a pacifist in the Meji Period Era. In the beginning of the series, Kesnhin becomes a wanderer and uses a sword fighting style Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu taught by Seijuro Hiko. Later on, Kenshin meets Kamiya Kaoru, who opens a school studying Kamiya Kasshin-ryu sword fighting style. After saving Kaoru from a man pretending to be Battousai, Kenshin says at Kamiya dojo. Kenshin meets other characters like Yahiko Myojin, who parents were killed and had to work as pickpocket to pay his debt. After Kenshin saves Yahiko, he looks up to him and train at Kamiya Kasshin-ryu with Kaoru as his teacher.
Next is Sanosuke Sagara, a former member of Seiho Army and Kenshin’s closest ally. Sanosuke was a fighter for hire using Zanbato and his fist for combat. After Kenshin defeated him in battle, Sanosuke wanted to protect people and gave up being a mercenary. During his journey, Himura Kenshin meets some foes like Sato Hajime, a policeman and member of Shinsengumi who uses fighting style Gatotsu. Sato and Kenshin fought wanted to draw out Battousai but failed. Later on, Sato become his ally in Kyoto Arc. Shinomori Aoshi, who is the later of the Oniwabanshu group long with Makimachi Misao (who meets Kenshin in Kyoto). Aoshi and his subordinates was working with businessman named Takeda Kanryu. Takeda betray them and Aoshi vow to defeat Kenshin.
Battousai
Udo Jin-e is an assassin that master Nikaido Heiho style also Shin No Ippo and kidnaps Kaoru Kamiya to draw out Kenshin’s old Battousai self. Lastly, Shishio Makoto, he is the leader of Juppongatana and main antagonist of Kyoto arc. Shishio wants revenge from the government and suffers from burns (which he is wrap in badges). Kenshin Himura doesn’t want to kill anymore but villains in the series try to break him. In the past, he protects people and repay those who are kinder to him. He doesn’t want others to take the same path as him. Kenshin doesn’t have a sense of humor and have women falling for him like Megumi. In the series, Kenshin transforms into a killer to caring individual. That’s why other look up Kenshin and quickly gains friends along the way.
There was one fight in Kyoto arc went Kenshin vs Cho Sawagejo from Juppongatanna (Ten Swords). Cho does look kind of like Vash the Stampede with hairstyle of course. There was one episode in Trigun that Vash fought against samurai Rai-Dei the Blade from Gun-Ho Guns. I think it’s uncanny that both Nightow and Nobuhiro though of the same thing. Anyways, Kenshin wants a peace life but other will know that cross-shaped scar on his cheek. He has to carry that scar and reputation for the rest of his life. If that time comes, Kenshin will probably have to revert back to Battousai. Any who, lets talk about Vash the Stampede from Trigun.
Humanoid Typhoon
Vash the Stampede is another pacifist who also want to protect the weak as well. He has a twin brother named Million Knives. Million Knives is the main antagonist of Trigun and made Vash destroy a city earning the name “The Humanoid Typhoon”. In the beginning, Vash travel to look from Knives and meets other characters like Meryl Stryte. Meryl is a agent from Bernardelli Insurance Society along with her partner Milly Thompson. Later on, Vash, meets a priest named Nicolas D Wolfwood and become a ally to him. Vash always has foes like Legato Bluesummers and Gun-ho Guns assassins. Vash does break his pacifist vow and kills Legato. Towards, the end of manga or anime, Vash defeat Knives with Angel’s Arm along with his transformation. He continues to travel the planet with Meryl and Milly.
Vash is not like Himura Kenshin but walk the same path as him. There is a reason why I pick these two characters. Trigun does fight villains without killing but went it comes down to it. He will have to break that mold if his life depends on it. I like Kenshin more than Vash despite characteristics between them. Vash the Stampede is fear among outlaws by his nickname The Humanoid Typhoon alone. His personality is goofy like just Kenshin Himura and both female characters love him. Well Meryl doesn’t but keeps tabs on Vash. Kaoru does love Kenshin and gets jealous of other woman flirt with him. Anyways, I just want to compare these two and might do more in the future.
