Dragon Ball Daima – Easter Eggs and Callbacks from Other Series

Dragon Ball Easter Eggs

Dragon Ball Daima

Dragon Ball Daima is the latest anime that aired on October 11, 2024. It’s based on Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball manga series and last thing he worked on before passing away on March 1, 2024, before my birthday. The plot follows one year after Dragon Ball Z went Majin Buu is defeated. Demon Lord Gomah turns Goku and others into children to make them weaker.  Goku and others journey through the demon world to find the Dragon Balls to wish themselves back to adults. Throughout the journey, Goku and Z-Fighters meet Glorio along with princess Panzy. Goku and others have to fight off Tamagami to claim the Dragon Balls. In this post, I will be doing NewRockstars like easter eggs recap like they did with MCU. I will go with the first on the list.

Gendarmerie Force

Gendarmerie Force is Lord Gomah’s personal guards like Frieza’s Ginyu Force. These guys have a goofy nature unlike the Ginyu Force which are very serious. Gendarmerie Force is very similar to the Ginyu Force, while using poses like Super Sentai (aka Power Rangers). While Gendarmerie Force uses weapons and sometimes magic. Ginyu fights seriously using ki-blasts and special moves. This was a great callback to the Frieza Saga and Gendarmerie is easily defeated by Daima Vegeta. I forgot their names, but they were one side characters.

Bulma’s Beauty

In Daima, Bulma was in child form. She looks in the mirror and bushes her cheeks. In Dragon Ball Super Hero movie, in Shenron was summoned, Bulma wanted to stay younger which she fanaticizes about. Even Hybis wanted to date Bulma but is married to Vegeta. After credits of Daima, Bulma wanted to buy bugs that keep her beautiful from a shop in Demon World.  Sooner or later, Bulma will get old and can’t stay young forever. I thought it was funny to see Toriyama’s humor.

Goku’s Forms

When Goku faces off against Gomah with Third Eye. He showcases his Super Saiyan forms just like Majin Buu. First, Goku stated that there is SSJ, SSJ2 and SSJ3 after that Super Saiyan 4 giving viewers a new twist. SSJ4 was introduced in Dragon Ball GT in Super Baby saga. It was great to see Super Saiyan 4 in Daima and that episode 19 “Betrayal” spiked in viewership breaking Crunchyroll servers. That was amazing call back to Majin Buu saga, but Goku lost that fight. While fighting Gomah, Goku didn’t win and wasn’t enough against him. It was great to see that in Daima.

Majin Kuu and Duu

Majin Kuu and Duu was created by Arinsu during middle episodes of Daima. When Majin Kuu was created, he introduced himself just like Arale from Dr. Slump (another Akira Toriyama work). Kuu eats sweets just like Fat Buu and has the same abilities as him. Kuu is the most intelligent one and becomes the demon king after defeating Gomah. These two were the best characters in Daima. It is good to see them in Dragon Ball Sparkling Zero as DLC characters. I hope to see more of them in the near future in the series.

Goku and Vegeta

Goku and Vegeta are always at end odds with one another. Both of them argue about taking turns in fights throughout the series. Vegeta always wanted to prove to Goku that he is stronger. Even Vegeta turns Super Saiyan 3 for the first time after Dragon Ball Z. Goku achieved Super Saiyan 3 during Buu saga, but Vegeta came last. Even if Bulma keeps Vegeta in check sometimes. Goku and Vegeta’s rivalry has always been in Dragon Ball franchise.

Piccolo’s Father

We get a mention of Piccolo’s father went Goku and others go against Second World Tamagami. Neva explains how Namekians live in the demon world along with Piccolo’s father. In Dragon Ball, Goku defeat Demon King Piccolo and had a son afterwards. Piccolo never learned Namekians language nor about where he came from. During Frieza saga, Namekians had their own planet because of Demon King Abura. Demon World and Namek had their own Porunga (one green other red). That give us little closure about what Piccolo really came from.

Kid Goku Voice Actress

Kid Goku voice actress Stephaine Nadonly reprises her role in Dragon Ball Daima. Nadonly voices Kid Goku and Gohan in the past. Also, Daima Goku got the power pole and his mannerism just like Dragon Ball days. It was great hearing that voice again. The whole thing makes me feel nostalgia in some way.  Daima Goku makes jokes about underwear like went it first met Bulma. I am glad I watch English dubbed of Daima.

Closing

Dragon Ball Daima was a fun show and Akira Toriyama did amazing job. There are new and old voice actors in the show. Fight scenes were a work of art and comedic timing on different characters. I love how Daima ties-in with Majin Buu saga and callbacks to DBZ along with GT. Sadly, this is probably last animated Dragon Ball show you will ever see. But who knows, Akira Toriyama’s work will live on. Dragon Ball Daima is available on Netflix, Crunchyroll and Hulu. What are your thoughts on Daima and let me know in the comments. Thank you for reading this blog post and tune into the next one.
