Mega Man Maverick Hunter: The Day of Sigma Recap

Mega Man Maverick Hunter X: The Day of Sigma OVA is based on Capcom video game franchise. Also, its part of 2005 remake of Mega Man X and can be unlocked upon completion of the game. The plot takes place before the first game, in Abel City X and other reploids fight against mechalonoid. Sigma, Zero, X and Chill Penguin asset the situation to take out the giant mechalonoid. Mega Man hesitates on shooting giant mechalonoid and Sigma rushes to defeat the mech. X questions Sigma and Zero about his actions during Mechalonoid. Later on, both Zero and X investigate recent attacks in Abel City, but Sigma already was there at the scene. X and Zero talks with Sigma about who is the main culprit of these attack. Sigma evades the question and leaves the scene.

Sigma meets up with Dr. Cain, who tells a tales that how be found X and has a free will as humans do. Other reports about same attacker after the last investigation. Vile was set free by Sigma telling to join him. X and Zero gets a report about someone setting off rocket at a base. Both of them investigate and reveals to be Sigma. Sigma explains to X and Zero that he plans to create a reploid only world with no humans. X and Zero stops Sigma but were unmatched by his fighting strength. Later on, X remembers Dr. Light message before dying saying that he is a special robot. Along with having think like a human and make his own choices in life. X awakes and damages Sigma in the process by removing gem on his head. Sigma hacks the missile terminal and leaves the base.

Sigma Rises

He watches Abel City being destroyed along with Dr. Cain. Afterwards, OVA ends and rest pick off in the game. In SNES, the story extended, 22^nd century that takes place 100 years after original Mega Man game. Dr Cain, a human archaeologist finds a large capsule in a robotics research facility operated by Dr. Light. He was fascinated by original Mega Man but later called him X and dubbed him “Reploid” (which are replicate androids). Throughout the years Reploids was in mass production and given free will such commit crimes (known as Mavericks). Capable of human feeling like X but due to public outcry, Dr. Cain and Government form organization called “Maverick Hunters”. Maverick Hunters job is to disable Rogue Reploids and help tasks as well.

Sigma (who designed by Dr. Cain) who though to be immune of being Maverick but seize control of a small island, once occupied by human. He thinks human humans are inferior and limiting the growth of potential Reploids. Both X and Zero join forces and stop Sigma from eradicating humans. Throughout the series, Sigma is the main antagonist of all Mega Man X games and always return due to virus that once affected Zero. In my opinion, I wish there was an anime based on Mega Man X but only appeared in 90s Ruby-Spears cartoon. He has rogue Mavericks at his disposal such as Storm Eagle and Magna Dragoon. Always, there is a meme that Sigma looks like Buzz Lightyear in some way. Sigma does appear as a character in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite and combine with Ultron.

Thoughts on Mega Man Maverick Hunter: The Day of Sigma

I finally get know about why Sigma betray human, and X. Voice actors did great job portraying characters. Even it’s a 23 or 24-minutes original animation video but I didn’t have time to explain overall story of Mega Man X. X struggles with doing the right thing without turning Maverick. I felt that they have miss certain things in the OVA. Animation has some 2D with CGI blend in with it. Its was great to see major characters shine throughout the OVA. I have played SNES version of Mega Man X and so far, it’s my favorite out there. Remake explains some lore with boss characters. Sadly, I don’t have a PSP but I might emulate it. Although, I am not a huge fan of Mega Man franchise and X is my first one I ever played. Had fond memories of getting weapons and learning their weakness. Kenji Inafune did amazing job with the series, but he wasn’t involved in 2006 remake. I am guessing that he left Capcom by that time in 2010. After Mega Man X8, the series has ended and no more games. If you want to know more about story of Mega Man X, play or buy the games if you like. After watching Mega Man Maverick Hunter X: The Day of Sigma, I want to get X Legacy Collection for PlayStation 5. I have to play original games first before X. There is sone question that if X and Zero destroy Sigma for good. What will they do and face another big threat?
