What is Uma Musume Pretty Derby?
Uma Musume Pretty Derby anime is based on Cygames (who brought you Grandblue Fantasy, Shadowverse and The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls). The plot of the anime is about a horse-like girl named Special Week, who wants to become best in Japan. Uma Musume characters are all based in Japanese racehorses with name same. Personally, I never played Uma Musume and it’s a gacha game where you raise them and race to the finish line. Each horse like girl has different personalities and traits, for example Silence Suzuka who is the most popular horse in Japan. In anime, Suzuka is secondary major character in the 1st anime series. Special Week looks up to her and shares the same dorm room at Tracen Academy as well. Both girls are in same Team Spica along with Gold Ship, Volka, Daiwa Scarlet and Mejiro.
These horse girls are under leadership of Trainer-san which Special Week thinks he is a pervert at time. Special Week and Silence Suzuka have a friendly rivalry with each other. Suzuka goal is the same as Special Week is to make people dreams came true and inspire a lot of horse girls. In the anime, Silence Suzuka gets injured in episode 7 in Tenno Sho race. Special Week helps Silence Suzuka to recover her fracture leg to partake in Japan Cup. Special Week has lost Japan Cup to El Condor Pasa because of Suzuka’s injury. Out of the hospital, Suzuka continues to train and wants to race with Special Week. Team Spica and Rigil cheer Suzuka as she gets ready to race again.
Silence Suzuka’s Career
During Open Special, Suzuka wins the race as much everyone delights. Afterwards, Silence Suzuka goes to US to race. Special Week is motivated by Suzuka win at Open Special and defeated Broye in Japan Cup. During the idol performance, Special Week was inspired by Silence Suzuka’s dream and wants to become like her. Even, Uma Musume Pretty Derby anime had 12 episodes, we don’t get much backstory of Silence Suzuka. Other than she is most famous horse girl in Tokyo. Suzuka personality is very calm and collected during moments. I love the chemistry between Special Week and Silence Suzuka throughout the whole anime. Both are aiming to become to the best in Japan has to offer. I am pretty sure that Suzuka career has some ups and downs.
I have to play the game to learn about her skills and support cards. Couldn’t offer much detail about that but all I know is here role in season 1. Suzuka is part of generation 1 along with Air Groove and protagonist of Chapter 5 part 1. Overall, Silence Suzuka is a character that kept pushing even goes it rough. A lot of horse girls couldn’t pass her in the first episode of the anime. Some horse girls are envious of Suzuka because of her speed in the derby. Silence Suzuka is based on real life Stallion who did suffer an injury in 1998 Tenno Sho. Real life Silence Suzuka was born in May 1,1994 and died on November 1, 1998, at the age of 4. Misturu Hashida was its trainer and owned by Keiji Nagai in 1990s.
Thoughts on Uma Musume Pretty Derby
Silence Suzuka was unbeatable on the turf and considered one of the best male racehorses in Japan. Umamusume popularly grew in 2025 which I never heard of the series until now. There was a clip of one of the horse girls named Gold Ship dropkicks you to next week. I also went to Otakon 2025 and saw a Umamusume cosplayer but didn’t get a photo, maybe next time. Uma Musume has a lot of anime series along with spin offs. Of course, there will be a manga based on it making Gold Ship main character. Gold Ship does have a YouTube channel called PAKA TUBE and appeared in PisuPisu SupiSupi Golshi-chan. There are other horse girls who are protagonists. There is Tokai Teko in season two and Kitasan Black for third season along with more.
I got Uma Musume wish listed on PlayStation Store but its free on mobile and Steam. There are some videos I have watched that keep me up to speed about Uma Musume Pretty Derby series. Sorry I can’t offer many details because I never owned the game but soon went price drops. Well, the anime I thought it was straight forward, and a lot of people think Sports anime is boring and repetitive. Let me tell you that it’s not like that because its idoi and sport roll into one. Umamusume is very original and is not cliché like some anime tv shows I know. I wouldn’t say it’s an underdog story but getting motivation one. There was no bad episodes in the series whatsoever.

I really enjoy the animation by P.A Works who known for Angel Beats and Canaan. In video games, I am guessing I have to learn how to train horse girls.
