Why Soulslike Games are Bad and Not for Everyone
What is Soulslike Games
Soulslike games is classified as highly difficult and terms come from Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Demon’s Souls and other games like Bloodborne (another FromSoftware title). Another term is Soulsborne, which is a combination of Dark Souls and Bloodborne all-in-one. What do they have in common? Both games have waves of enemies trying to take your life. Each of them is action-role playing video game genre. They have character customization which you can select your classes along with design. There is a storyline which main protagonist battle against a demon god called Adyr, Therefore, it’s called Lords of the Fallen. I recently played Lords of the Fallen and found myself enjoying it in some instances on my first playthrough. Lords of the Fallen is developed by Hexworks along CI Games handling publishing.

The game follows a lantern bearer who fights against a demon god in the land of Mournstead. Players take a control of the lantern bearer to face against the demon god Adyr and others. Lords of the Fallen gameplay is based on classes, for example, if a person picks a mage. Mages can utilize magic and warriors are mainly close-range combat. Players also have lantern that collect souls and use Umbral world which you can navigate through hidden parts of the world. The lantern can also apply extra damage and also use as waypoint if stuck. Anxiom is where players pray to upgrade and rest to restore health along with consumables. There is online multiplayer as well, which will help you a lot in bosses.
What are Other Soulslike Games?
Lords of the Fallen is available now on PC, Xbox and PlayStation to buy. Also, look out the sequel coming in 2026. Speaking of video games, there are plenty that I played throughout the years like Code Vein, Lies of P and Nioh 3. Personally, these games follow the same format being action rpg mix with hack n slash elements. Once, if there is a game over, you will lose everything and start back into the checkpoint. When fighting huge bosses, players will have to remember the pattern but went that second form comes out. Get ready to have your consumables to restore health and magic. You will be talking to npcs that sometimes doesn’t offer any help, except boss fights like Eden Ring.

I forgot to mention that The First Berseker: Khazan that one of the difficult third boss in the game. During the demo (well I delete the video), I face off against two bosses in won but third boss got me good. There is a reason why Souls-Like games are not for me because hard boss fights. I understand it offers players a challenge in the long run. Didn’t get to mention that stamina and weight make players feel limited in some way. It reminds me of Fallout 4, went you have too many items, resulting in players feeling sluggish. Before, I go to are Soulslike games the worst and not for everyone. There is one souls-like game such as Black Myth Wukong that I wanted to try but maybe went price drops.
Are Soulslike Games Bad?
Well, I would say some Souls games are bad for beginners and definitely feels repetitive just like Musou series. Even gacha games like Where the Winds Meet have some elements of Dark Souls. Another thing, I don’t like about these types of game is highest difficulty and felt like grinding for nothing. Are you expected to become stronger or weaker? Also, I hate enemies respawn went to the rest areas and have to fight them all over again. Yes, it operates like regular role-playing game went you have to grind to level up. Sometimes, it’s not worth it and don’t like the controls like Lords of the Fallen went switching from lantern to magic. Also, defense meant nothing in Souls games, look at Lies of P, blocking takes after your health.

If you have to perfect parry to deflect enemies attack but consumes stamina. Items are very limited just like Resident Evil inventory. I haven’t gotten to mention that enemies don’t drop items but have to shops for buying them. In Lords of the Fallen, there were no shops, but I might be wrong about that. Souls’ games are not meant to be easy but offer challenging playthrough for hardcore gamers. Yes, you can be rolling out of enemy’s attacks and experience death multiple times. Sometimes, it feels like a chore and offers nothing new to overall experience of making a great game. Personally, I don’t see any replayable value playing these games for second or third time.
Closing
Don’t get me wrong, I play Souls-like games from time to time. Everyone is not willing to try them because how hard they’re. There are games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Remnant: From the Ashes that players enjoy because it makes them get up and try again. Some gamers have finished the game and experience multiple endings, but I have no intending to complete them. Note: Some people argue that Monster Hunter is a Souls-Like game and Let it Die. Yes, Souls like games has become popular and marketable in the gaming industry. Its overall core design of these games that prevents players from advancing to next section of the game.

It may seem jarring at first glance, but if you played long enough to know. Let me know what is your thoughts on Soulslike games? What are your favorite? Do you think they’re good or bad in the comments, thank you for reading this blogpost. Tune into the next one from yours truly.
