Lanterns (2026) and SuperGirl (2026) – Which Ones Is Good
Lanterns (2026)
Lanterns (2026) is a detective crime drama based on DC Comics’ Green Lantern series developed by Tom King, Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof. The plot is about Hal Jordan (Kyle Candler) who trains John Sewart (Aaron Pierre) to be the next Green Lantern in Rushville, Nebraska. The series is a Buddy Cop format with John and Hal getting into arguments and solving mysteries on what is happening in Rushville. The major characters is Rushville sheriff Kerry Kane (Kelly MacDonald) who has rocky relationship with Hal Jordan. Also, has a family of Manhunter such as Zoe Macon (Poorna Jagannathan) and Noah (Shea Pritchard).
Hal Jordan comes off as tough love and arrogant around John. John attitude toward Hal Jordan is untrustworthy and wants to take his place as Green Lantern. During his childhood. John had to endure trials from his parents to become the next Green Lantern because Guardians made a mistake not choosing him. Although Hal has been shun throughout townsfolks at Rushville despite being a superhero. Even, towards the end of the series, that Kerry lawyer husband Billy Macon (Jason Ritter) told John to turn off Green Lantern signal to summon Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion). Another than Guy Gardner, there Thaal Sinestro (Ulrich Thomsen) who is in prison for unaliving guardian.

I am hoping for Kyle Rayner, Alan Scott and Jesscia Cruz would appear in the season two of Lanterns. Also, want to see more other colored Lantern corps appear in the next season. I am getting ahead of myself here. Lanterns (2026) is one of the best DC comics live action tv shows I ever watch. The showrunners were inspired by True Detectives, Slow Horses and a bit of CSI. This is apart of James Gunn’s DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The show is a blend of superhero mix with science fiction. In my opinion, it’s way better than CW’s DC comic shows like Arrow (2012), The Flash (2014) and Supergirl (2015). Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre have some chemistry in each episode.

Two actors are having fun with this series. Also, we get a backstory on Hal’s father Martin Jordan (Jake B. Miller) and John’s childhood. Both major protagonists have been through a lot in Rushville. John enters a relationship with Zoey and turns out to be a Manhunter. As result, of unaliving Zoey after saving him from a burning car cause by Hal Jordan. After Hal Jordan’s death in 2026, John investigates on who is the culprit. John goes to another planet with fake Hal to get a lantern from Sinestro. After coming back, John gets attacked by Noah and tells him to unalive him out of mercy like Zoey. During, Football game, John finds out that Hal warns Kerry that Noah is a last Manhunter and shots him. After John uncover the truth, he proclaimed that he would be new guardian to Guy Gardner.

Warning John that Guardians of the Universe will send an army to get him. Afterwards, John repays Maggie and reunites with his family. Series ends there, each episode is 47-57 minutes long pack with character development. The series has deep writing and hooks you along with putting yourself in their shoes. Lanterns are no way like superhero facing off against a supervillain but more grounded than others. The show really standout and not straying away from typical hero format like Invincible. It’s a solid show with 8 episodes to cover certain story arcs. Actors did amazing job portraying the characters, especially Kyle and Aaron.
Lanterns are a must watch for Green Lanterns fans alike and also talk about black culture as well. I am hoping to see more and what writers will come up next in next storyline. How will John take on the Guardians of the Universe and other corps? Well will have to find out, let me know what your thoughts on Lanterns (2026) in the comments is below. Lanterns is available to watch on HBO Max and buy Green Lantern comics as well
Supergirl (2026)
Supergirl is a superhero film based on DC Comics’ character with the same name developed by Peter Safran and James Gunn. The plot is about Supergirl, who left Krypton after being destroyed. Kara Zor El (Milly Alcock) is celebrating her 23 birthday and well at a bar. She meets Ruthye Marye Knoll (Eve Ridley), a family of blacksmith who forge weapons. Ruthye is looking for a warrior to defeat Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts), who is the leader Brigands along murdering Ruth’s parents. Kara Zor El agrees to take Ruthye along with her to find Krem after he poisons Krypto.
Both Kara and Ruthye fight off space pirates to a planet to look for Brigands. While at a tavern, Kara meets Lobo (Jason Momoa) who is also looking for them. Two owners tells Kara how to find Brigands and later on gets ambushed by them. Supergirl faces off against Brigands and Ruthye gets captured. Kara tries to save Ruthye but gets weakened by Kryptonite sun. In Brigand ship, Lobo agrees to help Ruth with escaping, afterwards gets caught by Krem. Krem decides to throw Ruthye off of moving vehicle but Kara saves her after Kryptonite sun rotated. Kara faces off against Krem and unalives him.

She recovers the antidote and saves Kryto and Ruthye joins her to celebrate rest of her birthday. Also, reunited with Clark Kent (David Corenswet) telling him that she is staying on earth. Supergirl (2026) is a 7/10 for me because Kara would never kill anybody and I remember Main of Steel (2013) Henry Canvil did the same thing. I get it Kara acts like a drunk teenage girl from college for throwing some people off. It’s a variant Supergirl which she is washed up like Hal Jordan (Lanterns). People think she is not Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl because another version of the character.
Closing
Jason Momoa is better as Lobo than Aquaman, I am hoping for a solo film in the near future. A lot of people didn’t like this film but I though it was average. Critics were saying Milly Alcock portrayal was the worst I ever seen. Along with story was kind of flat in some way. Well, let me tell you that James Gunn wanted to adapt Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow eight-issue miniseries. Tom King is involved in the movie as well, fitting 1 hour 8 minutes of content. I like the fight scenes and Lobo as well. I wouldn’t say this is the best Supergirl movie to date. Some fans of Supergirl might enjoy this film but others might call it shallow.

Supergirl (2026) has some funny moments and her backstory doesn’t mention Brainiac that cause her planet’s destruction but Man of Tomorrow (2027) will cover it. But I don’t have much opinion about the movie at all. What is your thoughts on Supergirl (2026, let me know in the comments below. Supergirl (2026) is available now on DVD/BluRay/Digital along with watching it on HBO Max. Thanks for reading this blogpost and tune into the next one from yours truly.
