Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War: Calamity

Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War Calamity is the final part of the Tite Kubo’s manga series and anime series finale after 22 years. The anime leaves off after Conflict, went Yhwach destroyed the Soul King and gains its power called “All Mighty”. Yhwach wants to combine Soul Society, Karakura Town and Hueco Mundo to take over the world. Throughout Calamity, Soul Reapers continue to face off against remaining members of Steinritter. Uyru faces off against Jugram Haschwalt. Chad, Renji Abarai Ganju takes on the statues. Toshiro, Kenpachi and Byakuya faces off against Gerald Valkyrie with the help of Vizard. While Ichigo, Orihime and Rukia team up against Ywhach.

While fights heat up, there were some key moments like Orihime sacrificing herself to save Ichigo and others. Ichigo has a new Bankai form and speaking of that Urahara achieve that as well. I forgot that Yoruichi and Urahara along with Grimmjow defeats Aksin Nakk Le Vaar. Toshiro complete his Daigen Hyorinmaru transforming him into adult and Kenpachi has a Bankai which he comes unstable. Afterwards, Uryu defeat Jugram and Shunsui and other hollows assist him in destroying the bridges. After Ichigo, Rukia, Orihime are unconscious and getting healed by Nano Ise. Yhwach goes to the Soul Society and cause havoc.

Renji and Ichigo go to Soul Society to fight against Yhwach later on assisted by Sosuke Aizen. After Yhwach successfully his essence in three world Hueco Mundo, Soul Society and Karakura Town. Three main parties defeat each of Yhwach essences and Ichigo delivers the final blow ending his reign. In the Epilogue, Orihime and Ichigo have a child named Kazui Kurosaki, along with being happily married. Rukia and Renji have a daughter named Ichika Abarai as well. Chad is in a boxing circuit and Uryu works in the medic field. 13 Squad Captains celebrate on new members. Anime finally ends went Rukia and Ichigo remember their first encounter.

Thousand-Year Blood War is Weak

I have waited 22 years for this story to arc but I would say it was kind of weak in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, I always love Arrcanar arc and series should have ended there. As far as animation, Studio Pierrot did a great job mixing with CGI and imagery especially showcasing Yamamoto’s Bankai. Don’t forget one of Squad Zero’s Senjumaru Shutara Bankai which was a work of art. Speaking of Squad Zero, we get a introduction of them including members like Ichibe’e Kyosube. Yhwach was saying that Ichibe’e wanted Ichigo to be the next Soul King but refuses.

We do get a backstory on some of the members of Steinritter like Jugram. There is some deaths of some characters in the fight against Ywhach. In the series, we get a glimpse of Ichigo’s mother and she was adopted by Ryuken (Uryu’s dad). Therefore, Ichigo has Quincy, Hollow and Soul Reaper powers at birth. Thousand-Year Blood War was very action packed with fast paced battles and some character development. Also, I forgot about Yachiru was a Zanpakuto spirit the whole time and we as the readers didn’t know about it. I was shocked about this and Ukitake takes Soul King place.

Bleach Thousand-Year Blood War is what fans of the series have been waiting for. I remember after Fullbring arc that anime was finished. As Tite Kubo continues to work on the final arc of the series, while anime ended on March 17, 2012, on season 16. In March 2020, a 20^th anniversary project was announced and Thousand-Year Blood War adaptation was in the works. I was excited about a new Bleach anime and played Brave Souls in preparation for it. I haven’t yet bought Bleach Rebirth of Souls yet but I don’t know if there is a player base for it in 2026. ,

Closing

Anyways, I remember buying Bleach at Barnes & Nobles with my mother and it was first manga I had afterwards Ikkitousen (Battle Vixen). Also, I had a Bleach artbook as well, within the first seconds of the manga. I fell in love with it and especially openings and endings in the anime. Every weekend, I tune into Toonami to watch latest episode and later on watch it in Japanese. Even Thousand-Blood Year has some callback from pervious story arcs and recaps. Ichigo really changes as a character and willing to protect others. I haven’t seen a live action movie but heard it’s not the best. My favorite characters are Toshiro and Kenpachi, seeing those two work together was funny.

How can I forget about humor? Bleach does have a blend with comedy and transition to action. I would say thank you Tite Kubo and Studio Pierrot for making me love Bleach and I will truly miss it. Even final arc seem kind of off but it was 8/10 because nostalgia soundtrack that was remixed and flashy fight scenes.
