For the King II and CrossCode – Party Up Video Game Review
For the King II
For the King II is a sequel to 2018 video game tactical role-playing video game developed by IronOak Games and Curve Games handling the publishing. The plot is about four heroes facing off against evil Queen in the land of Farul. For the King II offers more classes the its predecessor. Personally, I didn’t play the original game and got it for PlayStation Plus Monthly Free Games of August 2026. The game’s goal is to complete quests within a time limit.

Overworld, play similar to Dungeon and Dragon (DnD), and have to move in certain spaces. Players can use focus to add more space to move and increase your attacks in battle. You can also try playing online with friends or offline depending on your choice. Note: You can’t play just one party member, because the game will punish players who tried this. Up to 4 players can fight enemies, go to special spaces to buy items or equipment along with earning exp. The more you end your turn, the next it will be difficult because of chaos.

In gameplay, each action has a percentage, for example, sneak and ambush enemies. These actions has probability for 50% or 20% chance of succeeding. During battle, your opponent might dodge your attack or whiff. Sometimes, your characters can block attack or miss. After complete missions, dungeons and battles, each party member can equip along with pass items to another person. Also, take their rewards and sell them at a marketplace. For the King can allow players to recruit as well to fight alongside you in certain period of time.
For the King II has some rogue-like elements as well like procedurally-generated map and permadeath ( don’t worry you won’t lose items and start off in checkpoints). There is content to unlock during gameplay as well. For the King II is available now on Xbox, PlayStation and PC.
CrossCode
CrossCode is a action role-playing 2018 video game developed by Radical Fish Games and Deck13 has publishing rights. The plot is about avatar named Lea (who turns out to be Suzuka Sakai who loss her memory after her brother death). Lea goes on an adventure in a MMORPG called “CrossWorlds”. She meets other players like Emille and more on her quest to find who she really is. CrossCode allows players to level up and add party members as well. During gameplay, Lea can use her disc for puzzles and fighting enemies as well. There are side quests to earn rewards and items allow the way.

Lea can scan plants and other animal life in CrossWorlds. Players can unlock new abilities in skill tree based on how you do in combat. There are raids and joining guilds in CrossWorlds. CrossCode has bosses fights that make your think on how to beat them. In combat, your rank goes up after defeating certain enemies but goes down, Lea gets weaker. The game allows to go to different parts of the region of CrossWorlds with endless possibles. CrossCode is available now on Switch, PlayStation, PC, Xbox and Amazon Luna.
Thoughts
CrossCode was inspired by early action role-playing games from SNES era like Terranigma, Chrono Trigger and Yoshi’s Island. I can really see that and had some issues with side quests like catching goat kid. Some of the navigation were difficult to find and there was some challenging puzzles as well. Most of the time, I had to add party member to help me level up because I can’t do it solo. Love the chemistry between Sergey and Lea because they are willing to help each other. Lea is like a child and has limited vocabulary.

The game also reminds me of Sword Art Online and other MMORPG-like animes out there. I would recommend playing this game for retro action role-playing fans alike. As for For the King II, I was very frustrated at time limit mechanics and had to hurry to complete them. At first, I played with one party member and regret it. Later on, I have full party and it was a breeze. Pass the equipment or items to another is a nice touch and characters look like DND figures. Overall, For the King II is so much fun with your buddies then alone. This is my third DnD game I every played, second was Capcom beat’em up version. You will be random encounters with wolves and assassins in your quest.

Closing
The game is very easy for beginners and has a in-game tutorial for players who just started. Personally, I can’t see myself complete these games but had fun regularly on I played many rogue-like games back in Steam Next Fest 2026. What are your thoughts on CrossCode and For the King II?
