Team Based Shooters Games – Past and Present
What is Past Team Based Shooter?
Team based shooter originated in 2000s, which players choose a different set of classes like Support, Defense and Assault, depending on the game. There is some past team-based shooters like Team Fortress, Star Wars Battlefront (2004) along with Battlefield 1942. The goal of the game is to get the most kills and push the payload. Each class has different abilities and perks along with weapons. These games have emotes, commands and sometimes voting system. Don’t forget, you can unlock cosmetics (later on) and friends requests to join a party. What about custom servers for your community to partake in? There are different parts of shooters like squad, hero and loot that fit into that sub category.
As Team Fortress 2 grew in popularity, there were others like Bliizard Entertainment’s Overwatch, Netease’s Marvel Rivals and Hi-Res Studios Paladins Champions of the Realm. Thanks to TF2, more games just like these were mainstream and has gain a community around them. Although, in the past, there were lan-parties and esports competitions in early 2000s. Let me tell you, there were no battle passes nor dlc back then. Just like games like Quake and Unreal Tournament, players can trash-talk and use voice chat as well. In some games, you can ride vehicles like tanks and more.

What about updates to the game? Again, back in the early 2000s, there were bugs fixes and updates that require players to redownload the game for latest version. Nowadays, the latest patch can be downloaded in the background, while surfing the web or waiting. When latest patch is uploaded, there are notes about nerfs and changes to the game. Sometimes changes will not please them or not. Players voice their criticism about the latest path notes on social media, forums and online. You have to put yourself in developer’s shoes and you can’t please everyone with changes.
Team Based Shooter Community
These types of games are mostly free-to-play format, you have battle passes to support game developers for not shutting down the game. Speaking of games shut down, there are team shooters like Highguard, Concord and Lawbreakers. Server shutdown often happens went game developers don’t mean player demands or moved to another game. There is one method to keep to the going is collaboration and throwing more content for players to keep them occupied for years. For example, Fortnite has so many collaborations with anime, movies and other pop culture icons. Now, Fortnite is the biggest shooter game out there and Epic Games is swimming with money. Even Fortnite is not a hero shooter but does have a mode based them.
Anywho, there is Apex Legends and Gigantic that doesn’t have similar format like Team Fortress. Apex Legends is basely a battle royale style shooter and Gigantic more of MOBA went the goal is defeating a guardian from opposite team. What about the culture of team shooter games? Like I said before, there are esports revolving around them along with streamers who dedicated themselves to showcasing the game. You will see content creator post clips from their live streams on Tik Tok, Instagram, YouTube and other social media websites. Also, there is discussing about racism and toxicity in the team shooter community as well.

Recently, I cam across some news about Marvel Rivals players leaving the game because of racism. Let me tell you that while I was playing Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout, I was called a racial slur from another player. Personally, I didn’t response to that player and kept my cool. Still, that was first time I experience racism in video games because some people are miserable. Anyways, I didn’t experience any racism after that but trolls. That’s why I don’t turn off voice chat nor in-game chat because some people want attention. Just like my situation, no one will should experience any negative experience playing video games.

It doesn’t matter if you’re on PC or console. Treat others that they want to be treated, that golden rule of being a good person. If some are bad at certain hero, you don’t need to berate them to get better. Not every player is professional but casual and wants to have fun. Leave that middle school behavior behind and act like you got some sense. There is always report button and ever get suspended or banned from the game. While I was playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 beta, there were classes as well. I forgot to mention that but personally, I like team shooters like Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare.

There are some pros and cons in hero shooter but people still going back to them. Not all of them are free but paid like GearBox’s Battleborn. Game developers recognized that there is a playerbase around shooter video game genre. The question is will it dead or alive, if developers don’t need player’s needs. What is your favorite past or present team-based shooter games Let me know in the comment and thank you for reading this blogpost. Tune into the next one from yours truly. Note: these games are crossplay and available on all platforms (Xbox, PlayStation, Mobile, PC, Nintendo Switch and more).
