Why Call of Duty So Popular – Good, Bad and Ugly
Why Call of Duty Popular Shooter
Call of Duty was originally release on October 29,2003 and developed by three developers Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games along with Activision is publishing the game. Call of Duty offers fast-paced shooter and makes players feel like war solider with boots on the ground. COD for short has been best-selling first-person shooter game since early 2000s. Back them, Halo, Quake, Unreal Tournament and Counter Strike has the underdogs of shooter games. Call of Duty is sharing the spotlight because of pickup and play model that other shooters out there.
The franchise help army vets find employment, has a esports competition and sales very well in numbers. COD is known for its online multiplayer, which players can play game modes like Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch and more. Nowadays, players can use voice chat, invite players to a lobby and start custom matches. There is some toxic players in COD went it comes to cheating and other forms of misconduct. These can easily become a problem and get you reported. Resulting in your account getting banned or suspended until further notice. Single player is takes more than cinematic approach throughout the years.

Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Activision
Myself, I been playing Call of Duty franchise for a while and still been going on 22 years. Now, the game has changed drastically from fighting against other solders to fighting zombies along with machines. I understand that COD is now as before and get turned off by it. Lastly, one I have played was Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 and had so much fun. You are able to customize your loadouts, pick an operator and gain exp to level up. But in the past, I have played Black Ops on PlayStation 4 before going on hiatus.
Good, Bad and Ugly
Call of Duty offers players to use strategic moves and action to win the game. For example like airstrikes, sliding and camping to flank enemies. Players have an arsenal of weapons like machine guns, snipers and many more. Also, in latest games like Warzone (which is free to play), there are finishers and uses of melee attacks. The game rewards players getting killstreaks to unlock special actions as well. COD can be somehow be repetitive and felt like there is no changes went it comes to sequels. Call of Duty feels like Madden and comes out each year as well. Some players will noticed that controls are smooth and aiming as gotten better. Don’t forgot about how powerful weapon are and large file size for console and PC players.

Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Activision
COD has some collaborations like The Boys, TMNT and having celebrities as well. Infinity Ward and other developers pour money into this franchise and don’t see it dying anytime soon. COD went from WWII, Ghosts and Cold War, while Battlefield series says traditional military style shooter. This franchise has makes a huge shift from military to horror in a nano second. Which some fans has been turned off and play other horror shooter like Dying Light or The Last of Us. Personally, I really don’t care as long that I enjoy the game for what is it.
On that note: I am not a huge fan of Call of Duty franchise but seen streamers and other content creators showcase their skills on social media. There is a lot of videos on YouTube on tips and tricks on the best loadout and how to aim property in thick of the battle. I remember the days of health packs but now went taking cover or staying away from gun fire. You will be back in action, I also heard that there will be a full-length movie produced by Paramount Pictures in 2028. I am happy to see how it goes and some fans think it might flop.
Closing
Let’s see how story panders out because Call of Duty has a Tom Clancy style and has a lot of material to work with. COD does have some controversy like “No Russian” and depiction of international conflicts along with religious groups. Gamers still love the game and even trash talk each other went getting dubs. Yes, you have other shooters like Marvel Rivals, Fortnite and Overwatch but Call of Duty hits home for being the most popular shooter of all time. Those quick turns and getting shot at in a blink of the eye is something that players live for.
I want to see Goddess of Victory Nikke crossover one day but I don’t Shift Up and Infinity Ward make a partnership one day. There are dedicated players who love or Call of Duty, if they play as one mouse/keyboard or controller. Even playing as competitive or casual depending on your preference. Call of Duty popularly has skyrocket and will continue to put you in the front lines in combat. Also, I remember Medal of Honor before COD came along, wonder what happen to that franchise. The last game was Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond in 2020 but disappeared afterwards.
I am getting ahead of myself but Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is coming in 2026 with open beta and early access for those who purchase to the game. If you don’t want to buy the game, play Warzone for free. What are you thoughts on COD franchise in the comment below. Thank you for reading this blogpost and tune into the next one from yours teuly. Call of Duty is available now on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and mobile as well.
