Winx Club Season 1 Recap

Winx Club season 1 is based Italian animated magical girl developed by Iginio Sraffi. The plot is about main protagonist named Bloom (who is the last princess of Domino), she is a teenage girl that lives with her adopted parents. Note: you will know about her real family in later seasons of Winx Club. One day, three teenage witches call them The Trix (main antagonists of season 1 and beyond) wants her power. Bloom meets a fairy named Stella and fights off The Trix minions like Knut.

Stella invites Bloom to Alfea to control her Winx powers and impose as a princess from Callisto. While in Alfea, Bloom meets other characters such as Tecna, Musa and Flora (who have the same Winx powers as her). She meets specialist Sky, Brandon, Timmy and Riven from Redfountain School for Boys.Later on, Bloom falls in love with Sky (later on being fiancé to Diaspro) during school ball. The Trix (Icy, Darcy and Stormy) belongs to Cloud Tower for witches (which is rival of Alfea). Three witches intended to foil the Winx Girls and get Dragon Flame from Bloom. In the course of s1, Bloom has trouble with her powers.

She wants to learn about Dragon Flame which is the main focus of season 1. Stella gets kidnapped and Icy wants her power than Bloom. During a rescue mission to retrieve Stella and her ring. The Trix gave Bloom, an ultimatum the ring or Stella. She chooses to save Stella, and girls get punished for sneaking to Cloud Tower by Faragonda. In episode 10 “Bloom Tested”, there was a midterm test and The Trix sabotage computer to see if Blood has Dragon Flame.

The Trix Meets Dragon Flame

Afterwards, The Trix unleash a nightmare monster against The Winx Club. Bloom meets Sky’s fiancé Diaspro at Redfountain event but attacks her due to thinking that’s Icy in disguise. Due to that event, Bloom returns to earth with her adopted parents, while girls get punished again. While The Trix learns that Bloom is the surviving of Planet Domino. Bloom goes to find Dragon Flame after hearing voices. During their absence, The Trix summons Army of Decay to destroy Alfea and Redfountain.

The Winx fights off against The Trix, while Bloom finds a mysterious ghost named Daphne that has voice in her head. She regains Dragon Flame, while Cloud Tower, Redfountain and Alfea fight against Army of Darkness. Bloom returns to Alfea and overpowers The Trix. Darcy and Stormy fight off against the Winx Club. While Icy fights with full-power Dragon Flame Bloom in a fight. The Trix and Army of Decay have been defeated. Thanks to the offers of Alfea, Redfountain and Cloud Tower defending the land against The Trix.

Bloom and others are hailed as heroes of Alfea. Sky and Bloom share a kiss and along with wait for another adventure. Season 1 of Winx Club is very typical teen drama with love, betrayal and finding out about yourselves. There is a subplot about Riven being controlled by Darcy and betraying the Specialist. Stella acts very irrationally towards Bloom, Musa, Tecna and Flora. The show is very anime-inspired especially with those big giant eyes they have. I have to say that Flora is the best girl because of her sweet personality. Tecna is an android, I am telling you because how she acts.

Thoughts on Winx Club

Personally, I don’t like animation, but I got used to it. Some backgrounds have CGI and look very mesh together. Transformation is cut down, which I love because some magical girls show have longer sequences. The Trix are the worst villains in the show due to their cruel nation and reminds me of Hocus Pocus. Bloom is a straightforward character willing to know what she came from. She is a teenage girl dealing with acceptance and love just like anyone would.

Bloom is not an annoying female character like Marinette from Miraculous Ladybug. Although, she has an animal rabbit sidekick but minor character in the show. There is a baby duck that The Trix always mistreats in season 1. I also love 4Kids English dub cast like Lisa Ortiz (Muca), Liza Jacqueline (Bloom), Caren Lyn Tackett (Stella), Dani Schaffel (Tecna) and Kerry Williams (Flora).

There are many more characters coming in season 2. During season 2, 4Kids Entertainment no longer dubs Winx Club but switches to Nickelodeon. In January 2023, Paramount brought Winx Club and announced a reboot in May 2024. Straffi allows full creative control of the reboot along with continuing being animated by Rainbow. Netflix will be in charge of airing the episodes, but I am not a Winx Club fan.

Closing

I enjoyed what it was and see why there is a fandom of franchise. The reboot will be in CGI just like movies Winx Club: The Sercret of the Lost Kingdom and Magical Adventure. There is a live action tv show, video games and merchandise. I haven’t forgotten about music score in Winx Club, some of them are hit but intro must be a miss. Soundtrack sets the tone of the show and but was not fan of it.

I don’t like some Nick voice actors but 4Kids closed down, so they have to be replaced. That’s understandable but I prefer 4Kids Entertainment ones because they’re more expressive than Nick ones. In the later season, we will learn about different realms that main characters are from along with origins. I might watch more seasons and episodes on the Winx Club in the near future.

Seriously, I have watched a lot of magical girl shows like Pretty Cure, Sailor Moon and W.I.T.C.H (which Disney sue Rainbow for). If you are fan of magical girl, then check out Winx Club.
