What is Record of Ragnarok?

Record of Ragnarok is based on Japanese manga by Azychika along with Shinya Umemura and Takumi Fukui. The plot is about Gods decided to end humanity but one of the Valkyrie sister Brunhilde insist on a contest between humans and gods. This contest is a 13-person team battle to decide the faith of Godhood and humans Each warrior is based on historical figures from Japanese, Chinese and other regions of the world. While the series features gods and goddess from Greek to Hindu. A mortal can’t hurt a god alone but have 13 Valkyrie Sisters that can combine into weapons to help humans combat them. This method calls “Volundr” which can enhance mortals and create divine weapons for them to slay gods. Brunhilde summons a group of warriors which there are called “Einherjar” to help her objective.

In Record Ragnarok, there are 13 warriors and Valkyries that prominent characters in the series. This blogpost will showcase them, and I will explain names as well. These sisters come from Norse Mythology and have different traits as well. Some of them are not accurate but altered for manga. I will talk about some that appeared in the anime and manga as well. Let’s get right to the Valkyrie sister that appeared in round 1 along with first episode. Although, Brunhilde is the first sister and Goll doesn’t take part in the fights. Note: I haven’t read the manga but anime, sorry for the lack of knowledge about rest of the Valkyrie Sisters.

Randgriz (Fourth)

Randgriz is the first round and partnered up with Lu Bu (a Chinese warlord from Easter Han Dynasty). She performs Volundr called “Sky Piercer” in form of halberd that Lu Bu personalized weapon. Sky Piercer can break any defense, specially went fighting Thor but Lu Bu loses. Randgriz true name is “Shield Destroyer” which is perfect for Lu Bu because he can break any obstacle. Even in defeat Goll cares deeply for her and went to Vahalla at the end. Randgriz is fourth Valkyrie sister in the series.

Reginleif (Seventh)

Reginleif appears in second round with Adam vs Zeus. Her Volundr form is knuckleduster (brass knuckles) to assist Adam. Reginleif true name is “power trace and daughter of the gods”. Power is what drives someone and willing to protect the weak with it. That’s why Reginleif form is brass knuckles because someone has the power to defend themselves. Also go against someone who has power over them just like Adam. Reginleif is seventh Valkyrie sisters of the series.

Hirst (Second)

Hirst appears in 3rd round between Kojiro Sasaki vs Poseidon. Her Volundr is a form of Monohoshizao (odachi). In the anime, Hirst has a split personality from calm to aggressive, which her true name “the quaking one”. During the fight, Kojiro odachi was broken in half and Hirst uses power to become daisho. Hirst symbolizes ying-yang or good and evil in my opinion. There are always two sides of coins and also polar opposite can become one. Hirst is one of second sisters that can be warm in the outside and hot on inside.

Hlokk (Eleventh)

Hlokk appears in the 4^th round of the contest between Hercules vs Jack the Ripper. Her Volundr is a pair of clover that can turn anything into a divine weapon. Hlokk turn name “unstable” which she is a perfect for Jack the Ripper because he is a serial killer. I don’t know about her personality myself. Hlokk is eleventh Valkyrie Sister in the series. We don’t know how unstable a person is back on their upbringing.

Thrud (Third)

Thrud appears in the 5^th round of the contest between Raiden Tanneemon vs Shiva. Her Volundr is “Mawashi of Flesh and Bone”,which allowsRaiden to control his muscles. Thurd does fall in love with Raiden and even in death. Also, her named means empowerment which empowers Raiden to fight Shiva. Some people need empowerment to have confidence in themselves. They can beat anything whatever comes their way. Thrud is third Valkyrie sister in the series.

Alvitr (Tenth)

Alivtr appears in 6^th round of the contest between Qin Shi Huang vs Buddha. Her Volundr is a part of spaulders called “Shenlou Kaixiu” which later called “Shi Huang Goujian Sword”. Alivtr true named is “all wise” because of her personality. Being wise can help people understand meaning of life and teach others as well. Alvitr is the 10^th Valkyrie Sisters in the series.

Gondul (Ninth)

Gondul appears in 7^th round between Nikola Tesla vs Beelzebub. Her Volundr is based on materials that allows Tesla to complete his special armor called “Super Automaton B”. Gondul true name is “magic wand” which I am guessing she a magician in some way. Every magician doesn’t need a magic wand but specializes in the medium. Niola Teslais a inventor who specializes in electricity. If you create something, you are the magic wand that can make it into reality. Gondul is 9^th Valkyrie Sister in the series.

Geiorlul (Fifth)

Geiorlul appears in 8^th round between Leonidas vs Apollo. Her Volundr is aspis shield that can change forms. Her true name is “the one charging forth with the spear” which Leonidas is a spartan warrior that can charge forward through thousand men. There is a saying that always charges forward to things that become obstacles in your path. I am guessing Geiorlul always the one charging forth because of her personality. She is the fifth Valkyrie Sister in the series.

Skalmold (Sixth)

Skalmold appears in 9^th round of the contest between Soji Okita vs Susano’o No Mikoto. Her Volundr is a Katana that can bring out the user true potential. Skalmold’s true named is “sword time” which fits with Soji because he fights with a katana. A sword can be double edge but one uses it to protect oneself. Skalmold is sixth Valkyrie sisters of the series. I think she also has a personality like a sword.

Radgridr (Eighth)

Radgridr appears in 10^th round of the contest between Simo Hayha vs Loki. Her Volundr turns into an M/28-30 rifle fitting for war veterans. Radgridr’s true name is “the bossy” which her personality reflects her. Let’s say that Radgridr is Simo commander in some way and some people didn’t be told what to do. She is eighth Valkyrie sister in the series.

Skeggjold (Twelfth)

Skeggjold appears in 11^th round between Sakata Kintoki vs Odin. Her Volundr is a Axe which is fitting for Sakata. Skeggold true named is “axe era” which she uses specialize in. Sakata uses a axe in Japanese folklore but I can people use it during that time period. Skeggjold is the Twelfth Valkyrie sister in the series.

Closing

Goll is thirteenth Valkyrie sister and her true name “rumble”. I have a theory about Goll because her Volundr might be musical instrument which causes noise or uproar. It might be someone from specialize in leadership or dictatorship. Goll paired up with Grigori Rasputin or someone else, As for Brunhilde, she is the first Valkyrie sister and probably partnered with Michel De Nostredame because his connection to Bifrost. Her true name is “battle armor”, Brunhilde Volundr will be armor for Michel but I might wrong about that. Record of Ragnarok manga are still ongoing, and we will have to see what will happen.
