What are Black Geniuses in Media
In media, black geniuses is rarely seen in anime, video games, comics along with movies. Which is another term blerd aka black nerds, which there is book based on that called “Weirdo by Tony Weaver Jr”. There are some in black history as well like Katherine Johnson, Mark Dean and Web Du Bois. You can reach some on your own at Library of Congress African American History Resources website. That being said, I will be listing smartest black characters in media. First off is Moon Girl aka Lunella Lafayette.
Moon Girl – Marvel Comics
Moon Girl is a 9 year genius that create a portal and other inventors. In the tv series, Lunella was inspired by Miriam, her grandmother who was named Moon Girl before donning the name. Lunella meets Devil Dinosaur and both of them share a bond along with taking on supervillains. After show got cancelled and lasted for 2 seasons, her and Devil make appearance in Marvel Rivals season 8 “Sin of Alchemax” along with X-Men’s Cyclops. Moon Girl is very similar to Riri Williams from IronHeart (which is the next on the list). Feel free to watch Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur on Disney.
Riri Williams – Marvel Comics
Riri Williams is a MIT student who inspired by Tony Stark and created a suit based on Iron Man. In miniseries, Riri faces off against The Hood and dealing with issues with people around her. For example, losing her best friend Natalie and making a deal with Mephisto to revive her. Also, Riri Williams has issues with her family as well. She is a great inventor and willing to help others out. Ironheart is available on Disney Plus to watch.
Cameron Corduroy Wiikins – Total Drama
Cameron is a contender on Total Drama: Revenge of the Island , he is very smart and willing to have Mike, who helped him control his personalities. He has a over protective mother and consider weakest character in the show. He also can built a robot during episode “Brain vs Brawn: The Ultimate Showdown” which Cameron makes his way through finale. Check out Total Drama series, online or offline, whatever you choose to do.
Steve Urkel – Family Matters
Steve Urkel is the most iconic character in black sitcoms and also portrayed by Jaleel White who best known for voicing Sonic the Hedgehog. He is a neighbor of The Winslows and often a nuisance to Carl. Even Steve has a crush on Laura Winslow but doesn’t return his feeling rejecting him. His catchphrase such as “Did I do that?” or “I don’t have to take this, I’m going home”. Steve Urkel is my favorite black nerd in tv history and appear in other shows like Scooby Doo, Full House and Step by Step. Don’t forgot about Urkel dance, which is my favorite. Tucker Foley – Danny Phantom
Tucker Foley is one of the main protagonist Danny’s friend alongside of Samantha Manson. He is a tech genius that help out Danny capture ghost and assist him in many ways. Foley uses a PDA to hack into any computer and machinery at will. Tucket is one the prominent character in Danny Phantom. Cyborg and Mr. Terrific – DC Comics
Cyborg and Mr Terrific are both geniuses along with being apart of Justice League. Mister Terrific can use T-shpheres, that can use to hack, holographic projection and generate energy burst. While Cyborg has power of Mother Box and uses various weapons to fight off supervillains. These two superheroes are formidable and has higher IQ than rest of DC heroes. Sherman Klump – The Nutty Professor
Sherman Klump is a college professor who has a crush on Carla Purty but due to his insecurity about weight. Klump create a formula to make him lost weight and turn into alter ego Buddy Love. After transforming into Buddy Love and become mean spirited , Sherman accepts who he is along with his weight. Sherman Klump is portrayed by Eddie Murphy who breaks humor to the film. Personally, never saw one with Jerry Lewis but feel free to buy the film.
