What is Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream
Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream is action roleplaying game developed by Dimps and based on Reki Kawahara adventure scfi light novel based on the same name. This is the third Sword Art Online game I played since “Lost Song” and a crossover game with Accel World .Fractured Daydream storyline is Kirito Kirigaya takes a scroll in ALO VMMORPG and meets recurring antagonist Quinella (goes by The Administrator), who Kirito assists despite losing her memory.
Kirito meets up with his friends at a cabin, Leafa tells Kirito about a new extension to ALO called “Galaxia”. Galaxia is a extension that allows users to play through last events of ALO along with taking snapshots. Two tester Fuuka and her Ai companion Neige explained about Galaxia along with gathering data for their research.
Throughout the game, other Sword Art Online characters from Gun Gale and Alicization is about of Fractured Daydream. Fractured Daydream gameplay is very similar to Lost Song but different tweaks to the game. Players can use three special skills with cooldown along with ultimate, which is similar to hero shooter games like Overwatch.
Story Mode and Multiplayer
You can also find treasure chests with health and mods to raise your character passive skill. Each mod can raise guard, health and critical damage. Speaking of characters, each one has sets of equipment like weapons, talismans and more. There are cosmetics to outfit your characters and skin went beating quests. You can customize beginning of the quest or after completion.
Story is divided by chapters and each of them requires certain characters and equipment to complete it. During quests, you can find loots and bosses as well along with ranking up for side quests. Players can choose up to 3 characters based on their types such as ranged, tank, support and more. Side missions are available to play if certain ones are very difficult.
In gameplay, certain characters can fly like Quinella and use guns like Llenn (who also can’t guard). After playing single player, there is multiplayer game mode which encourage players to play through story mode to unlock characters. Co-op missions allow up to 8 or more players to partake in. There are special missions and evens like just like MMORPG or gacha has.
Thoughts
You can invite players to join your quests and accept them. I would have to say multiplayer is fun and you have to level up first. Online multiplayers have some game modes to try out on your own. Personally, I haven’t played much on multiplayer, but I don’t know player count because game is dead. In April 2026, PlayStation Plus Monthly Free Games, Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream was free along with Tomb Raider I-III Remastered and The Lords of the Fallen. I did sign up for closed alpha but didn’t get the chance to play it.
Now, I got my hand-on experience trying out the game. My issue is the camera angle and lock on system which is very faulty. Also, it is trying to be a soulslike with limited health consumables which felt out of place. The game does feel like an arcade game than mmorpg like Phantasy Star. SAO Fractured Daydream sometimes suffers from identity crisis not knowing what it is. Locking on is definitely a huge problem went facing multiple enemies.
I found myself losing some health along guarding is very useless, but evading is very effective for avoiding attacks. Cutscene dialogue is sometimes very late, and lip sync is very jarring. Overall, I think SAO fans will enjoy this game because large various characters to choose from. Fans will recognize some of them from past story arcs and series included spinoffs.
Closing
Basely, is a SAO multiverse just like MCU with any character from hero, supporting and villain. Like I said, I can’t tell if this game operates like a mmorpg or hero shooter along with Soulsborne game. Yes, this game is anime game like no other and doesn’t expect to become a blockbuster hit.
My favorite character is Llenn because I love the third person shooter style gameplay. I don’t see why Reki Kawahara can’t put his characters in Fortnite nor PUGB. If you watch Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online, it’s basely battle royale style than mmorpg. I am getting ahead of myself but still will try other characters in a second playthrough.
Sword Art Online Fractured Daydream is something that fans of the series would try. Although the game has some minor issues but still playable for large multiplayer options. You don’t do much grinding and find materials to dismantle along with crafting items (I forgot to mention that). SAO Fractured Daydream is available on PlayStation, PC and other platforms.
