Killing Floor 3 – Its Hell on Earth Video Game Review
What is Killing Floor 3
Killing Floor is a first-person survival horror shooter developed by Tripwire Interactive (known for Red Orchestra and Rising Storm). KF3 is the sequel to 2016 game with same name as its successor. Overall game is about a group of survivors fighting against a zombie like being called “ZED”. Creative director Bryan Wynia stated that this game is “direct sequel to the first” aiming for a “darker and gritter tone than before”. Also, Wynia stated that game is inspired by The Thing and Aliens Vs Predator as well. Killing Floor 3 was announced at Gamescom in August 2023 and released a closed beta of multiplayer in January 2025. Tripwire Interactive has received negative feedback from players about pc version and lack of maps.
Content creators had to sign a non-disclosure agreement within a five-year duration. This agreement not allowing players to discuss any details about the build, despite being launched. Anywho, KF3 is a step ahead of the second game, there are more classes than last one. For example, Ninja classes which your starting weapons are shuriken and a katana. The game features ultimate which has a cooldown, which specific for each class. Another class is Firebug, which specializes in fire-based weapons. Other classes make a return Engineer which you can hack sentry turrets, armor crates and zipline. Sharpshooter, Commando and Medic also have a major overhaul from last game.
Multiplayer and Solo
Killing Floor 3 has a stronghold where you can accept missions and interact with party members as well. In stronghold, you can complete tutorials, practice shooting range and customize your character. Each class has perks and upgrades, you can earn them by completing missions by leveling up exp. Players have a choice to complete missions and weekly challenges solo or friends or random players. There are several maps such as prison, offices and many more. In multiplayer, you have to watch together to defeat hordes of Zed. After completing waves, you have option to resupply at Trade Pod. You can buy and sell weapons, also switch out gadgets like grenades along shock taps.
There is an option to refill ammo and your inventory. After fighting off number of Zed waves, there will be boss fights like Queen Worm and more. When in a pickle, you can revive players and give them money to purchase items. KF3 has difficulty mode like easy to hell on earth (which is the hardest in the game). The game introduces sliding like Call of Duty and dashing which is sort of dodging mechanic. “Zeb Time” is very similar to Max Payne’s bullet time which slows down the game and highlights enemies as well. When I got to from PSN Monthly Games December 2025, Tripwire Interactive has an update the game because I didn’t purchase it day one. Personally, I don’t buy day one video games because of issues at launch.
Thoughts on Killing Floor 3
I am surprised about player count in Killing Floor 3 and there is crossplay as well. Crossplay is a game charger instead of playing players on one system. People called this game a failure, but I had fun playing it. Gamers have their opinion and thoughts on KF3. This game is a huge improvement because Trade Pod time has been extended than last game. You can skip it and like how game highlights remaining Zed instead of aimlessly looking for them. I love how KF3 introduces new perks for existing and new classes which change tides in gameplay. Zed is tougher than before like those dancing ones, I always melee these things with my weapons. As everything goes, I had no issues with disconnecting from servers or other issues.
There were some active players still playing KF3. Killing Floor 3 soundtrack reminds me of Doom, giving it a darker tone. Graphics are amazing and give Zed more depth and scary interior look. I would say this is a horror game that doesn’t have a lot of lore but can enjoy yourself with friends. Players shoot Zed’s body part off and having a small quick time event went being grabbed by them. Personally, I love Ninja and Firebug classes in my opinion due to playstyle. Commando glass is not bad at all, if you’re a beginner at the game. I remember losing against King Fleshpound in the second game because how tough it was. In the game, there are optional objectives in each map to earn experience.
Closing
Killing Floor 3 takes co-op horror multiplayer to a new level. Bosses are even tougher than last one, but you can’t do it alone. Don’t worry, there are emotes and many other fun things to do in the game. I think this game has improved a lot since 2016. Personally, I never played game but heard its originally mod for Unreal Tournament 2004 and had a cross promotion with Team Fortress 2 (one of the character had a gas mask). Speaking of characters, there different specialist from all over the world like USA, UK and Japan along with many more.
Killing Floor 3 is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC. I found myself wanting to play more, probably on Halloween 2026. Tripwire did a good job despite what critics say.
