Why Were Yuru and Asa Separated
Yuru and Asa are two main protagonists of Hiromu Arakawa’s Daemons of the Shadow Realm. Both main characters were separated because both twins have the power of “Break” and “Seal”. In early chapters and episodes, two siblings have to separate because they have power to control the universe. That’s why Asa went to the Kagamori clan in the modern world. While Yuru stays in Higashi Village to fend off against bandits and others why want his death or power. In mid-part of the series, we learn that Asa died and gain “Break” from a god, while being kidnapped. Meanwhile, Yuru lives in Higashi Village with fake Asa (turns out to be a child-like Daemom).
Kagemori clan was started a massacre in Higurashi village, while looking for Yuru. Dera and Hana rescues Yuru from Kagemori family. Yuru went to modern world and Dera tells him about barrier between worlds. Modern and Higashi village two protect the two twins for every coming harm to them. Yuru has two Daemon Left and Right protecting him and trying to grasp what is modern world is. Meanwhile, Yuru is a question to find his parents and questions about the separation of Asa and him. Yuru finds out about Kagemori and has confrontation. Jin Kagemori purposes that let Yuru see Asa in the Manor. While at Kagemori Manor, Asa meets Yuru and develops a brother complex, which annoys him.
Asa tells Yuru that she is that same as one in Higashi Village. Kagemori has been taking care of her ever since both Yuru and Asa separated from each other. Yuru didn’t understand why they attack Higashi in order to smoke him out. Jin explains why they did it because others might find who they’re and use their powers. Meanwhile, Asuma’s uncle Iori Shingo wants Asa and Yuru for their powers along with his hired assassin Ivan Yosano who has two pairs of Daemon Katanas. There are others who wants Asa dead like one of the Kagemori siblings Akio Kuroya with two mountain Daemons. Luckily, Akio escape with his mother and planning their move.
Asa and Yuru’s Goal
Yuru had a talk inside of Daemon Ying and Yang about their future. Asa wants to go to Disneyland (it was named something else in the manga). While Yuru wants to live a better life with his sister along his parents if they’re alive. In the anime, their goals were straightforward and wants normally like everyone else. In the series, Yuru and Asa felt like a burden to people around him. Both of them never ask to be born with power to bring destruction to the world. I know Yuru and Asa’s parents ae hiding in Okinawa, Japan from dangerous people. Yuru and Asa meet other Deamons like two Aliens with dog master along with Oshira.
Speaking of Daemon, Yuru’s best friend was Daemon Zashiki-Warashi and had lied to him throughout his life. Zashiki-Warashi did confess about lying to Yuru about truth behind Asa’s disappearance. Yuru forgives him and knows that they were tasked to protect him because Yamaha Ono. As series, goes on, Yuru and Asa are fighting for their lives to stay out of danger. Right now, manga is still ongoing but anime adaptation is 24 episodes because 16 volumes are already in the can. Now, there is a new antagonist called Misasagi, who seeks Yuru and Asa power for himself.
There might be more villains that want their power and death on their hands for example Nishino village. I hope they explain about their goal to take over the world for themselves. Yuru and Asa will find more about their parents, even something will draw them out. I am afraid what might happen to them and will they be better without them. There was one person in the show Asuma’s mother that said that went talking to Gonzo. I am sure that Asa or Yuru felt the same way in the course of the series. Daemons of the Shadow Realm is not like Hiromu’s other work Fullmetal Alchemist.
Thoughts on Daemon of the Shadow Realm
The series is well-written that I haven’t seen in manga or anime series in a while. It tells us a story about two siblings having the world revolving around them. Why society tells him how to live their lives because power they born with. Hopefully, Yuru and Asa have a peaceful life at the end of the manga. Maybe Yuru and Asa might sacrifice themselves in the climax of the series to restore the world. That’s just my prediction what will happen in the ending but might be something else along the way. Back to my review, Daemon of the Shadow Realm is a solid series to fans who love Hiromu work.
After watching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and enjoying the series with its action along with comedic chops as well. I like Daemon system which is stronger in day and other weaker at night. Daemon reminds me of Monster Rancher, Digimon, Yokai Watch and even Pokemon along with other monster taming series. Fight scenes are typical for an action series dealing with supernatural. Overall, its one of the best anime in 2026, I ever watched. Each character has motivated on how people should live or die like Gabe. Who wants to unalive Akio with her speech about how the world doesn’t need bad guys and how Hikaru’s manga because there were no villains.
Closing
We don’t know what is going to happen next scene. Pacing of the show has a sweet spot to get viewers or readers to know what is going on. Personally, I want to see more of Daemon of the Shadow Realm went rest of the manga chapter is complete. This show will get another season for sure and I am here for it.
